Hawks’ Finally End Trae Young Experiment in Trade Proposal

The Atlanta Hawks have played surprisingly well without Trae Young in the lineup this season. Young has only played five games this season because of an MCL sprain. In those first few games with Young in the lineup, they were just 2-3.

Since then, Atlanta has been able to jump into the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Without Young in the lineup, the Hawks’ defense has improved. With this being the final guaranteed year of Young’s contract, Atlanta could look to move on from him.

Young is going to want a maximum contract from the Hawks, and they might not be willing to pay him that. That’s another reason why they might look to move on from him. One trade proposal from Bleacher Report has the Hawks shipping him to the Suns for an intriguing package.

Trade Proposal has Hawks Trade Trae Young to Suns

Here is the full proposal: Trae Young to the Phoenix Suns for Jalen Green, Nick Richards, Rasheer Fleming, a 2027 first-round pick (via UTA, CLE, or MIN), and a 2029 second-round pick.

In this scenario, the Hawks are getting quite a lot in return for Young. Green is still a young player who has potential for some growth, although he doesn’t possess the same kind of play-making that Young does, and that’s something that Atlanta needs.

Getting a first-round pick and some center depth might not be a bad idea. They could flip Richards for either a point guard or more draft capital. Fleming is young and intriguing. Plus, they get out of Young’s extremely costly contract.

Bleacher Report Trade Proposal Doesn’t Solve Hawks’ PG problem

While this proposal does give the Hawks some intriguing players, as well as a couple of picks, it doesn’t solve the point guard problem that would arise. Young is one of the best play-makers in the league, even though he has shortcomings with his shot and on defense.

Right now, Atlanta is relying on Dyson Daniels to be the point guard. So far, that has worked out well because of the fact that he is a major upgrade on defense. Will that work out long-term for a team that is predicated on moving the ball?

There is a very good chance that Atlanta at least takes some calls on Young’s availability when the trade deadline gets closer, and Young gets healthy.
