The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t just looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions, but build on posting the league’s top-ranked defense that led last season’s championship charge.
If the Eagles’ 2024 formula holds true, not only will coordinator Vic Fangio’s defense once again prove pivotal, but it will take several young and unheralded players stepping into marquee roles and playing at a high level, quickly.
ESPN NFL Insider Dan Graziano suggests leaning on so many young players is a calculated risk that could pay significant dividends in Philadelphia.
“They’re excited about guys like Moro Ojomo and Jalyx Hunt,” Graziano writes for ESPN. “They’re extremely fired up about rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell. And with two-thirds of their salary cap committed to the offense, they will need production from young players on the defensive side of the ball.
“But not every development timetable goes as planned, and asking younger players to take on larger roles brings some risk. This Eagles group has no interest in stopping at one Super Bowl title. They’re thinking dynasty thoughts. We’ve already seen GM Howie Roseman make multiple trades this month, including one that brought in cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders to address a potentially thin area of the defense. Roseman won’t sit on his hands if more questions rise.”
Roseman and the Eagles struck gold during the 2024 NFL Draft, adding Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to the secondary, who proceeded to become two of the premier defensive backs in the sport. If the Eagles see a similar instant impact from Campbell, this defense could be built for sustained success for years to come.
The Eagles have the luxury of owning up to 12 picks in next spring’s draft, and the track record of aggressively adding where needed, which has been a key to Philadelphia’s prolonged success over the past decade.
Eagles’ Roster Cut Latches On With New team
GettyKendall Lamm was among the Eagles’ final roster cuts.
Offensive tackle Kendall Lamm made a strong push to land a spot on the Eagles’ 53-man roster as a swing tackle behind Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata prior to being released ahead of Tuesday’s deadline for teams to set their initial roster.
Lamm wasn’t unemployed for long, re-signing Wednesday with the Miami Dolphins, where he played three seasons in Miami from 2022 through 2024.
Last season in Miami, Lamm didn’t allow a sack in 512 snaps, and now returns to a familiar offense where he’ll have the chance once again to compete for meaningful snaps keeping quarterback Tua Tagovailoa upright in the pocket.
