Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry boasts one of the most absurdly impressive resumes in the history of pro basketball. The second-generation star has been voted unanimous MVP, pioneered four NBA title runs, shattered three-point records and lifted the National Men’s Basketball Team to a Gold Medal win in the Paris Olympics with a historic fourth-quarter outburst.
With 25,988 career points to his credit, Curry is just 12 points away from becoming the 22nd player in history to surpass the 26,000-point threshold. On Christmas Eve, Curry drew high praise from Boston Celtics great Kevin Garnett, the most recent member of the 26,000-point club, who lauded the sharpshooting guard as the greatest NBA player of his generation.
“I’ve said this countless times. I think that we’re in the Curry era,” the 2003 NBA MVP said of Curry. “He is the GOAT of this era. When we talk about the long ball and the three ball, you’ve got to talk about the messiah of that long ball, and that’s how I look at it.”
Garnett later affirmed that the next generation of NBA stars will be led by Cade Cunningham, Amen Thompson, Derik Queen, and other budding talents, reaffirming that he believes Curry is the greatest of the crop of aging legends.
That ranks Curry over the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, at least in the eyes of the 15-time All-Star Garnett.

Since entering the NBA in 2009, Curry has recorded the fourth-most total points. Only James, Durant and Harden have more.
Curry not only established himself as an elite scorer, but he also earned undisputed honors as the greatest sharpshooter in league history.
The 17-year guard has led the league in three-pointers made a record eight times and is the fastest player to reach 1k, 2k, 3k, and 4k career threes.
Curry became the NBA’s all-time three-point leader in December 2021, surpassing Ray Allen, and later became the first player ever to hit 4,000 career threes in March 2025, solidifying his status as the greatest marksman in league history.
A future first-ballot Hall of Famer, Curry could contend as the best guard, not just shooter, in league history.
He has more points than renowned scorers Vince Carter, Dwyane Wade, and Larry Bird, while also ranking in the Top 30 in the NBA’s all-time assists leaderboard.
The two-time MVP this season surpassed Michael Jordan in two key late-career scoring records: most 35-point games after age 30 (Curry: 94, Jordan: 93) and most 40-point games after age 30 (Curry: 45, Jordan: 44).
His three-point accuracy has become essential to his legendary mythos and helped revolutionize modern offenses to the three-point happy, high-scoring systems they are now.
Curry is averaging 28.7 points on 47 percent shooting this season, and should continue to soar up the all-time scoring list, with a realistic chance to crack the Top 20 this season.
The longer the 11-time All-Star continues to perform at an elite level deep into his career, the more validated Garnett’s “greatest of his era” assertion becomes.
