Hugo Ekitike remains a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League game against West Ham on Sunday due to a back injury.

The 23-year-old, who has scored five goals for Liverpool this season, was forced off in the second half of the 4-1 defeat at home to PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Liverpool, who have now lost nine out of their last 12 games across all competitions, travel to West Ham in the Premier League this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot played down the severity of Ekitike’s injury but conceded that the striker has little time to recover from the defeat to PSV at Anfield.

When asked about Ekitike’s injury, Slot said: ‘They don’t expect that it has to be a big issue but the games come fast so let’s see for the weekend.

‘But it shouldn’t have to be a big issue.’

Meanwhile, Alisson is set to return in goal after missing the loss to PSV due to illness.

Florian Wirtz is also closing in on a return having missed Liverpool’s last two games due to a muscular issue.

‘Ali trained again with the team today, so we hope and expect him to be available at the weekend,’ Slot said.

‘Florian will have his final day of rehab tomorrow. So, if that all goes well, he could train with the team on Saturday.’
