The National Hockey League trade deadline is under three days away, and rumors are starting to circulate all across the league. The Carolina Hurricanes are certainly in the trade market to make additions to their roster. The biggest needs for the Canes include another dynamic forward that can score, and a depth goalie to help alleviate some pressure off young buck, Brandon Bussi, who is Carolina’s current top goaltender option.
With reports circulating from all angles, one that came out earlier this week was the St. Louis Blues being ready to “move on” and trade goaltender Jordan Binnington. He would be one of the hotter commodities on the goaltending front during the next couple of days.

A Hurricanes Trade for Jordan Binnington Makes So Much Sense
GettyTrade pitch has the Hurricanes acquiring Jordan Binnington.
Reports indicate that the Blues are ready to trade Jordan Binnington, and that means he would likely be shipped off to a contending NHL team, which puts Carolina right in the center of potential trade discussions.
Carolina has Brandon Bussi and Freddie Anderson as goaltending options, but Anderson has not looked great over the past several months, and with goaltending being such a huge deal in the NHL playoffs, the time might be now for the Hurricanes to push all their chips in and acquire a guy like Binnington.
Jordan Binnington’s 2025-26 stats: 31 starts, 8-18-6 record, 3.60 GAA, .867 save percentage.
It hasn’t been the prettiest year for Binnington, but it’s fair to note St. Louis is having a rough year, sitting at the bottom of the Central Division. So the organization would actually be doing their longtime goalie a favor by sending him elsewhere.
And for Carolina, they wouldn’t be depending on him to be a top goalie in terms of GAA and save percentage, but service in the net would be huge down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Who Could the Hurricanes Give Up to Make a Deal Work?
To make a trade work for Jordan Binnington, the Carolina Hurricanes might be able to send St. Louis either Jesperi Kotkaniemi or Bradly Nadeau.
It feels like Jesperi is going to get traded regardless; it’s just a matter of where Carolina wants to send him and what the Canes will get in return.
As for Nadeau, he’s a young prospect in the Hurricanes system that hasn’t seen much NHL ice time and could be considered a movable piece. Draft picks might also suffice in a potential deal to acquire Binnington, but it will be interesting to see what type of market the 32-year-old netminder has in the coming days.
