Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud’s Magical US Open Run Continues

Casper Ruud & Iga Swiatek have stolen the show during the US Open’s all-new mixed doubles event.

After defeating Jasmine Paolini in the final of the Cincinnati Open on Monday, Swiatek stepped on the court in New York with Ruud for mixed doubles less than 24 hours later.

Since then, the two have continued to create magic both on and off the court, winning over fans with highlight-reel plays and hilarious interview moments.

On Wednesday evening, the pair defeated Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, punching their ticket to the final.

After losing the first set, Ruud and Swiatek were able to bounce back in the second before coming up big in the third-set match tiebreak.

While faced with an 8-4 deficit that saw the Pegula-Draper duo land just two points shy of winning the match, Swiatek and Ruud went on an impressive run that saw them win six points in a row to claim the match.

Casper Ruud Praises Iga Swiatek’s Relentless Determination

Following Monday’s final in Cincinnati, many fans theorized that both Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini would withdraw from the US Open’s mixed doubled event given the tight turnaround.

Instead, Swiatek took the court on Monday despite getting into Flushing Meadows after midnight according to the ESPN broadcast of Tuesday’s US Open action.

While speaking with members of the press following the pair’s quarterfinal win on Tuesday, Ruud praised Swiatek for both her play, and determination:

“There’s not too much to say other than we had a good time on court together, and we fit well as a team. I’m really impressed with Iga, the way she handles the men’s balls especially, and she can return the guys’ serve from the baseline, she can rally with anyone.

“She got to bed 12 hours ago in her hotel in New York, she’s here doing her warm-ups at 10am,” Ruud said. “I was in the gym working on my back swing and I was looking at Iga and I was like ‘this is determination I’ve never seen before’. It was really impressive for me to see and I am really happy she wanted to play.”

Ruud and Swiatek Await Collins/Harrison-Errani-Vavassori Winner in Final

With their win over Pegula and Draper, Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek now await the winner of the semifinal match between Danielle Collins/Christian Harrison and Sara Errani/Andrea Vavassori.

While Collins and Harrison were late additions to the draw following the withdrawal of Jannik Sinner, the duo have showed up in big moments. Now, they collide with reigning mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who are on a mission to make a statement in this year’s tournament.

As Ruud joked during the duo’s on-court interview on Wednesday, while they await the winner, he plans to relax after a hard-fought win.

“I’m gonna eat a little bit. I’m a little hungry. It was a long match. It was longer than Iga’s normal singles matches.”

With play already underway in the Collins/Harrison-Errani/Vavassori match, action rolls on from Flushing Meadows!
