Indiana Pacers Forward Avoids Serious Injury But Will Still Miss Time

The Indiana Pacers got a mixed bag when it comes to another injury update from one of their starters. After getting injured against the Suns last week, Aaron Nesmith looked like he had suffered a serious knee injury. He hardly put any pressure on his leg as he was being helped off the court.

When Nesmith was ruled out for that game, the official word from the Pacers was knee soreness. After the team gave him an MRI, it was officially upgraded to an LCL sprain. They avoided the worst-case scenario, as it is not a season-ending injury.

Still, Nesmith will miss some time. Rick Carlisle mentioned that Nesmith will be out at least a month with this injury.

Indiana Pacers’ Aaron Nesmith to Miss a Month

Carlisle gave an update on Nesmith following the Pacers’ most recent game.

“It’s likely going to be at least four weeks. So, talk to me on the 15th. But, it’s very, very good news. He’s not in a brace. He’s walking. So, I say it’s likely going to be four weeks. It doesn’t mean it couldn’t be less, but it’s unclear at this time. But he’s doing very well, and the news was very, very good.”

Nesmith becomes the third starter this year to miss significant time with an injury, not counting Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton was ruled out to start the year as he continues to recover from an Achilles tear.

Andrew Nembhard was injured on opening night and just recently returned after injuring his shoulder. Bennedict Mathurin injured his foot early in the season, and he is close to returning. Injuries have been the primary story for the Pacers this season.

The Pacers Are in Position to Tank

The myriad of injuries hitting the Pacers have now led them into a place they didn’t expect to be just a few months after playing Game 7 in the NBA Finals. T.J. McConnell missed the first ten games of the season, and Obi Toppin won’t be healthy until February.

Indiana has the worst record in the league, meaning they currently have the best odds to win the NBA Draft lottery. At this point, tanking might be the best course of action for this team. Adding an elite player to the fray heading into next season, when they’d be fully healthy, would be great.
