Indiana Pacers Lose Another Key Player to Knee Injury

The hits just keep coming for the Indiana Pacers.

No team in the NBA has been more affected by injuries than the Pacers. After losing Tyrese Haliburton in Game 7 of the NBA Finals a year ago to a torn Achilles tendon, things have only gotten worse. They have lost several key players to injuries.

Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell were injured early, missing seven games and 10 games, respectively. While both of those players are back, they are still without Bennedict Mathurin, Obi Toppin, Johnny Furphy, Kam Jones, and Quenton Jackson.

In a game against the Suns, the Pacers suffered another injury to a key starter. Aaron Nesmith left the game in the third quarter and did not return.

Indiana Pacers Lose Aaron Nesmith to Injury

In the early portion of the third quarter, Nesmith stepped on the foot of teammate Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and went down. His left knee hit the court, and he immediately grabbed it in pain, slamming the floor. Nesmith was helped to the locker room afterwards.

Nesmith was putting a little bit of pressure on it as he left the court, but not much. The official word from the Pacers was knee soreness, but it looked worse than that.

The Pacers will likely do imaging to determine the severity of the injury, which will determine how much time he will miss. Nesmith and Pascal Siakam are the last two healthy starters left from last season.

The Pacers Lose Aaron Nesmith to Injury vs Suns

Last season, Nesmith was Indiana’s best 3-point shooter. He made 43 percent of his shots from beyond the arc last season, which was the 10th-best in the league. This season, his numbers have fallen off without Haliburton giving him open shots.

Nesmith is also the Pacers’ best wing defender. Any chance of them digging out of the 1-10 hole they started in is slipping away with each passing game. Indiana will be cautious with Nesmith, no matter what the diagnosis is with his knee.

Indiana came into the game against the Suns with the worst record in the NBA. The Pacers also score the third-fewest points in the league. Without their core guys, it’s hard to see this as anything but a lost season at this point in the year.
