Insider Gives Eyebrow Raising Update on Jets HC Aaron Glenn’s Job Security

The New York Jets are 1-7 and just traded away two of their best players on the roster. So what does that mean for the job security of Jets head coach Aaron Glenn?

Nothing.

“Sources paint a clear picture for Gang Green: It won’t. In other words, there are no plans for a one-and-done result. Glenn was in lock-step with [Darren] Mougey on each move, with the idea that they would continue to build the roster based on their joint vision going forward,” NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport shared on Saturday, November 8.

“Glenn won’t be judged during the 2025 season by what the team’s record is,” Rapoport added.

Glenn and Mougey Aren’t Going Anywhere

Not only is Glenn’s job safe from the threat of a one-and-done, but that job is secure for the foreseeable future.

Rapoport revealed that his sources say, “they anticipate a far longer stay.”

That makes sense. The Jets just traded away two of their franchise pillars. Trades of that magnitude require approval from the owner. If Mr. Woody Johnson had any thought to fire Glenn and/or Mougey, he wouldn’t have allowed them to make those moves.

The fact that the Jets actually went through with those moves was an indirect vote of confidence for the current regime. Mr. Johnson is going to let this group see out their vision, for better or for worse.

“The Jets now have three additional first-round picks and one additional second-round pick over the next two drafts following the trades — eight total picks in the first two rounds of the ’26 and ’27 drafts. That should allow them (if they choose wisely) to rebuild this team in the image of Mougey and Glenn. It’s reminiscent of Sam Presti stockpiling 17 first-rounders from 2020 to 2026 for the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, then using the capital to trade up, trade down, and build. That is the hope for the Jets,” Rapoport explained.

Glenn Gets Brutally Honest About Losses

There is a palpable excitement for the future.

Former three-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Taylor Lewan told me on “Boy Green Daily” that the Jets have “hope” again.

However, it’s also fair to say that the Jets are worse. The assets the Jets got back aren’t going to replace what was lost in the middle of the season.

“Yeah, I just think being in this league is a challenge,” Coach Glenn told Jets senior reporter Eric Allen. “We lost two really really good players, and now we have to bring in more players. I’m not going to say we are going to sit here and replace Quinnen [Williams] and replace Sauce [Gardner], but that might have to be by committee.”

Winning games has been difficult for the Jets in 2025. They have a 1-7 record. However, it’s only going to get more difficult without Williams and Gardner in the lineup.

The good news for Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey is that they are safe regardless of what happens down the stretch. The key for the rest of 2025 is seeing improvement: situational football, overall coaching, and whether the players are still fighting.
