We’re only six weeks into the 2025 NFL season, and already fans of the Kansas City Chiefs have to be worried about their coordinators getting poached. That’s always a risk with good teams, but the Chiefs’ staff hasn’t been raided in some time.
Right now, there’s only one coaching vacancy in the league: the Tennessee Titans. The Athletic’s Diana Russini named Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy a candidate for the Titans gig. Nagy coached the Bears from 2018-2021 and is now in his second stint as the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, having served in that position back when the Bears hired him.
Russini also named Steelers OC Arthur Smith, Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver, and Colts DC Lou Anarumo as candidates she expects to comprise the Titans’ early list. She also named Chargers DC Jesse Minter, Jaguars DC Anthony Campanile, Rams DC Chris Shula, Vikings DC Brian Flores, 49ers DC Robert Saleh, Broncos DC Vance Joseph, Packers DC Jeff Haley, and Bills OC Joe Brady as likely candidates for other openings as they emerge.
The Kansas City Chiefs Offense Has Always Been Strong Under OC Matt Nagy

Nagy got his start with the Chiefs in 2015 as their quarterbacks coach, a role he served in until he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016. After he was fired by the Bears, he returned to Kansas City as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach in 2022, before being re-appointed to offensive coordinator in 2023.
Now in his sixth season as the Chiefs offensive coordinator between his two stints with the team, Nagy is an effective offensive coach. It’s true that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid calls plays and runs his own scheme, but his offensive coordinator always plays an important role.
Under Nagy, the Chiefs have ranked 20th, fifth, first, ninth, and 16th in total offense. Though six games, they rank eight in total offense league-wide in 2025. Kansas City also ranked first in total points in 2018, Nagy’s best year as an offensive coordinator, and the first year QB Patrick Mahomes started for the team.
The Kansas City Chiefs Are Gaining Offensive Steam
It was a slow start to the season for the Chiefs on the offensive side of the ball. WR Rashee Rice, Kansas City’s top offensive weapon, was suspended for the first six games of the season. To make matters worse, former first-round WR Xavier Worthy dislocated his shoulder early in the season opener and missed the next few weeks.
Still, the offense is starting to get back on track. After failing to score more than 21 points through the first three weeks, the Chiefs have now scored at least 28 in three consecutive games. They’ll have a chance to extend that streak to four games this week against a vulnerable Raiders defense, which will also be the first game Rice is back for.
The key for Kansas City will be extending that offensive momentum through a tough upcoming stretch of their schedule. If they can do that, they’ll be a serious threat to win the AFC once again.
