Jaguars Sign Running Back After Dominant Win Over Jets

The Jacksonville Jaguars extended their winning streak to five games as they defeated the Jets 48-20. With the win, the Jaguars maintained their position atop the AFC South, where they have a one-game lead on the Texans.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a phenomenal game, as he threw for 330 yards and accounted for six total touchdowns. The former number one overall pick has a total of 18 touchdowns since the Jaguars bye.

Jaguars Make Roster Move

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, it wasn’t all good news on Sunday. Running back Bhayshul Tuten suffered an injury that will require surgery. He will be out for a few weeks, but will likely be able to return in time for the postseason. Tuten had a season-high 15 carries in Week 11 for the Jaguars, but saw his role diminished soon after. If he does not return for the regular season, the fourth-round selection will end his rookie year with 78 carries for 284 rushing yards, and four touchdowns.

Running back Travis Etienne has been in the middle of a bounceback season, as he’s 51 yards shy of reaching 1,000 rushing yards on the season. He had a dynamic performance as a dual-threat against the Jets, as he turned his three receptions into three touchdowns.

To replace Tuten, the Jaguars signed former top recruit running back Deejay Dallas. Dallas spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, primarily playing a special teams role. He was previously with the Panthers, but the Jaguars signed him off their practice squad. In three games with the Panthers this year, Dallas had only one carry for zero yards.

In order to make room for Dallas on the roster, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced they placed linebacker Jack Kiser on injured reserve. The linebacker played in 14 games for the Jaguars this year, where he saw most of his snaps come on special teams duty.

Upcoming Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule

With three games left to play, the Jaguars still have everything on the line. As mentioned before, they hold a one-game lead over the Texans, but face two difficult matchups. First, they will travel to Denver to take on the red hot Broncos, who are in the middle of an 11-game win streak. Then, they will travel the following week to Indianapolis, who just recently announced 44-year-old Philip Rivers as their starter for their Week 16 matchup against San Francisco.

Fortunately, their schedule eases up in time for the final week of the regular season. They are set to finish off the year against the Titans, a team they beat 25-3 in their previous matchup this season. In case the Jaguars lose their next two games, they would still have a 99% chance of making the postseason with a win in their final regular season game. The Jaguars have not made the playoffs since the 2022 season, where they made the AFC Divisional round and lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
