Jason Myers Makes Seahawks History at Home

The Seattle Seahawks dominated in week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals. With a 44-22 win at home, they swept the competition thank to an incredible show put on by the defense and special teams.

On top of the win, Jason Myers made Seahawks history during Sunday’s game. With 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the 34-year-old kicker broke the record for all-time most field goals made in franchise history with 176 kicks.

Previously, the record was held by Stephen Hauschka who spent 6 season kicking for Seattle, including during the Super Bowl XLVIII victory of 2013. Hauschka set the NFL record for most consecutive field goals made from 50-plus yards with 13, a record broken by Brandon Aubrey last season. Hauschka still holds the Seahawks’ record for most consecutive games scoring with 94.

During the game, Myers scored kicks at 46, 32 and 34 yards to break the record. He has been with the Seahawks since 2019, and accomplished the feat over 108 games played. He also holds the most made field goals of at least 50 yards in franchise history (30).

Myers contract with the Seahawks runs through 2026, meaning he has plenty of time to add to that number. With 17 of 21 on field goal attempts this season, including making 4 of 6 attempts from 50 or more yards, Myers is set to grow that number and further cement himself in Seahawks history.

Myers spent three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before playing one season with the New York Jets and eventually joining the Seattle Seahawks. Despite a non-traditional route to the NFL, Myers has proven his place and done well with Seattle.

Personal Letter

In a personal letter written by Myers titled “In My Own Words: Jason Myers’ Journey to Career Season”, he details his journey from Marist University to the NFL, writing,

“I didn’t even get a sniff after college, which is fair because I was very raw. I had decent technique, I just needed some tweaks here and there.” He went on to write, “I love Marist, but we didn’t have a special teams coordinator. I had taken a couple of lessons in high school, but nothing serious, so I was just on my own.”

“After college, I went back to San Diego and ended up with the San Jose SaberCats in the Arena Football League, but a lot of guys who kick in Arena get stuck there. I wanted to give the NFL one more shot.”

“I started training with Michael Husted, who kicked in the NFL for nine years, in August 2014. That’s where things started to turn for me. I didn’t realize how close I really was. I worked my butt off in college, but I didn’t always know what I was doing. I just knew how to work hard.”

Seattle Seahawks Season

The Seahawks are now 7-2 and tied for first in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams. Next Sunday, November 16th, the Seahawks and Rams will face off for the first time this year in Los Angeles.

The Seahawks have proven themselves on the road this year, with a 4-0 record during away games. They will battle against the Rams to see which team will secure first place in the NFC West.
