Jean-Philippe Mateta says he is ‘very frustrated and upset’ despite scoring a Premier League hat-trick for Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The French striker netted three times as Palace drew 3-3 with AFC Bournemouth at Selhurst Park this weekend.

The Cherries had a two-goal lead thanks to Eli Junior Kroupi before Mateta scored twice in the space of five minutes to level things up.

Ryan Christie thought he’d won it for Bournemouth in the 89th minute only for Mateta to slot home a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Mateta was left gutted, though, after missing a golden chance to give Palace all three points in the 99th minute of the match.

The 28-year-old had the penalty area to himself with the goal at his mercy but ballooned his shot over the bar as Palace could only manage a draw.

‘With the last chance I had, I am very frustrated,’ Mateta told the BBC following the full-time whistle.

‘I want to win every game, even if I did score a hat-trick. It was up to me to score the goal [with the late chance] and I didn’t score it, that is why I am like this.

‘I need a few minutes to speak with the team and cool down but now I am upset.’

Glasner: I am so proud of the performance

Palace boss Oliver Glasner, meanwhile, was ‘proud’ with his team’s performance against Bournemouth.

Speaking to the BBC, Glasner said: ‘I know how our games are going, our last game against Liverpool and our away game to Everton was the same. It’s that last goal in the extra time.

‘I am so proud of the performance today – not the result. How we played and how many chances we created.

‘We were ruthless and every chance was a goal. The mentality of the team and the problems we caused.

‘There has not been many teams that has caused Palace so many problems. It was an incredible display.

‘I don’t think they were that much better in the first-half. When we go in details I think it was an even game, they were ruthless and we said we would stick with the plan and we did.

‘Our first goal we were back on the game.’

Quizzed about people doubting Palace’s character, Glasner added: ‘I think everyone enjoyed it. I never doubt our character because we have shown and proved it so many times.’
