Jerry Jones Has Interesting Player Comparison for Cowboys’ Dak Prescott

There aren’t too many similarities between Dak Prescott and Tony Romo as players. However, owner Jerry Jones believes that the current Dallas Cowboys quarterback has some similarities to his former star. Romo had a great career in a Cowboys jersey, but ultimately never achieved what he was looking to do: win a Super Bowl.

“Yeah, I think it is a fair comparison,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “I think he is playing at that level. He is right there at the very top of the strengths of this team, and what a place to have it. Of all of the places you could have it going well for you, that would be the one you would pick to give you a chance to be in the playoffs.”

Can the Cowboys End Their Super Bowl Drought?

The Super Bowl is a big part of what the Dallas Cowboys have been as an organization. Throughout much of their existence, all the Cowboys have done is win. Unfortunately, however, the five Super Bowl rings don’t mean as much because the team hasn’t won one since the 1995 season.

For Prescott, that’s something that he’s looking to do, and others believe that if he doesn’t, the comparison to Romo will be even more apparent.

“I want to win a championship,” he said, per FOX Sports. “Be damned if it’s just for my legacy, or if it’s for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity. Yeah, the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.”

Comparing Romo to Prescott in a previous article back in June, David Helman of Fox Sports noted that Prescott has to be aware of being like Romo was back in the day.

‘Prescott is now painfully aware of that on his own behalf, just as he was for Romo. Just as everyone associated with the organization is consistently reminded that the dust has been collecting on those five Lombardi Trophies for quite some time,” he wrote.

Can the Cowboys Win a Title With Dak Prescott?

Ultimately, while the Dallas Cowboys are a bit away from winning the Super Bowl, anything is possible this year if Prescott continues to play the type of football he has been playing to start the season.

He’s played like an MVP-caliber star, but it might not be all of his fault if the team doesn’t win it all. At the end of the day, the defense has to step up, as Prescott has done his job. If the offense continues to play this way and the defense does what’s needed, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them finally get the job done.

“[I’m] as confident as I’ve ever been,” Prescott said. “I would say I am … I think that’s why every year I feel like I’ve gotten better, making strides, and never getting complacent in every part of my game; I know sometimes the numbers and things don’t always show that, but I think right now they are.”

Unfortunately, however, the defensive questions are fair, and something that has to be answered over the next few months.
