Jerry Jones Made Mind-Boggling Micah Parsons Trade Offer to Jets

When the Dallas Cowboys acquired former All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets at the trade deadline, it was a win-win deal for both sides.

The Cowboys got a player at a position of need that they coveted, and the Jets got a boatload of draft capital, including two firsts and a second-round pick.

But this wasn’t the first time New York and Dallas engaged in trade conversations surrounding Williams, and according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, he made a head-scratching offer before the start of the season.

In an appearance on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan, Jones told Fred Davis and Blake Elliott he tried to trade Micah Parsons to the Jets for Williams and a first-round pick in training camp.

“I actually tried to trade for Williams… I wanted a one (first-round pick) and Parsons for Williams,” Jones told The Fan.

“I thought that much of Williams. And he’s showing you what he can do for a defense. You’d love to have Micah…but that’s not the game, that’s not the system.”

Is Jerry Jones Misremembering Trade Talks?

While the quote in itself is certainly interesting, Jones already discussed preliminary trade talks between the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys back in September.

In an interview with ESPN New York, Jones told Gary Myers that when he was initially shopping Parsons, the Jets were among the teams he was in discussions with.

“Well, (the conversation) was, frankly, we (Jets) just don’t have the resources to entertain conversations. It was a brief visit,” Jones told Myers.

Myers then asked Jones whether the trade talks were centered around Williams and draft capital going to New York in exchange for Parsons’ services.

“I would imagine that somewhere in that conversation that you might’ve asked for Quinnen Williams, looking to help your run defense, maybe a one, maybe two ones, and Quinnen Williams…Am I going down the right path there?” Myers asked.

“Yes, you are,” Jones responded.

The Cowboys did, in fact, land Williams less than two months later, but only after Parsons was out of the picture.

But did Jones really offer the Jets picks and Parsons for their Pro Bowl defensive tackle?

It’s not likely, but it is safe to say Jerry is loving his newest addition with the way Dallas’ defense has played with Williams in the fold.

Why Didn’t the Jets Trade for Micah Parsons?

According to SNY’s NFL insider Connor Hughes, Jones never offered the New York Jets draft capital and Parsons for Williams.

“Zero doubt that Jerry said this. However this was never actually offered to the Jets, I’m told. There was a conversation between owners. It was a brief one,” Hughes wrote in a post on X.

“A Cowboys source told me the Jets weren’t ever going to the monetary value needed to extend Parsons (discussed this Week 2). Talks ended. A land where Jerry trades Micah AND a 1 for Quinnen is amazing tho.”

If that offer was on the table, general manager Darren Mougey would have been hard-pressed to decline it.

Even given the state of the roster, which deterred New York from trading for Parsons in the first place, acquiring a first-round pick and a younger defensive star in exchange for Williams would’ve been a home run.
