Jets’ Aaron Glenn Provides Injury Update on Garrett Wilson

The New York Jets have been without arguably their best player for a few months now.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson has missed six of the Jets’ last seven games due to a knee injury and has been on injured reserve for the last four games.

Entering Week 15, Wilson is eligible to return from injured reserve, but will New York bring back their most important offensive player for the final four games of a lost season?

It remains unclear at this time, but head coach Aaron Glenn provided an update in his most recent press conference.

Aaron Glenn’s Garrett Wilson Update

Glenn was asked about the possibility of Wilson making his return on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the first game the former Ohio State Buckeye is eligible to play in since being placed on injured reserve.

“Those conversations will be with the doc and be with Garrett, and once we nail down those conversations, a decision will be made after that,” Glenn told reporters.

It seems we’ll have to wait until later in the week for a direct answer on whether Wilson will return for the New York Jets in 2025.

In the meantime, his status remains up in the air.

Should the Jets Risk Bringing Garrett Wilson Back?

The question of bringing Wilson back is tricky.

Of course, the New York Jets would want their No. 1 weapon back, especially given the offensive struggles this season.

Wilson would instantly provide a boost to an otherwise mediocre passing attack, but is the risk worth the reward?

Arguably not. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year is dealing with lingering knee issues, and that’s not something you want to press on a young wide receiver.

If Wilson were to come back and make his injury worse, it could threaten the start of his 2026 season, something the Jets desperately can’t afford given their likelihood of having a young quarterback under center.

Glenn and company would want the best possible environment for said quarterback, and that would mean keeping Wilson on ice for the remainder of the season.

The Case for Bringing Garrett Wilson Back

On the other hand, the New York Jets are trying to establish a culture under their first-year head coach, and the only way to do that is to win.

Through seven games, the fourth-year veteran hauled in 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns, putting him on pace for 102 receptions, 1,119 yards, and 11 touchdowns this season.

Mind you, that was in an offense where he was flanked by some middling receivers, such as Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson, and Allen Lazard.

Something the Jets coaching staff may be interested in seeing is how Wilson fares when he has some high-upside wideouts running with him, like Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie, whom Garrett has yet to play a snap with.

New York’s brass is likely interested in seeing how all three receivers play with one another before deciding on whether or not they need to add to the room during the 2026 offseason.

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see what the plan is with Wilson before any final decisions are made.
