Jets’ Aaron Glenn Spars With Media Over Garrett Wilson Injury Report, ‘Rich Has All the Answers’

ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported last night that New York Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson will be out roughly the next three to four weeks after aggravating his knee injury in Sunday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The report from Cimini came much to the dismay of head coach Aaron Glenn, who had not yet disclosed the information to the media ahead of his Tuesday press conference.

Cimini was not in attendance at the press conference, probably for the sake of his own well-being.

“Rich has all the answers. You can get it [injury reports] from him.”

Glenn Once Again Combative With the Media

The first-year head coach of the New York Jets opened his press conference announcing that he would not be giving injury updates.

“I’m going to pass on talking about injuries, since Rich [motions to where Cimini usually sits] — oh, he’s not here — has all the answers, so you guys can get all the injuries from Rich,” Glenn bristled.

This isn’t the first time Glenn and the New York media have gone back and forth on injuries and other roster decisions.

Since the Jets’ Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Glenn has declined to name a starting quarterback at the beginning of the week, citing a competitive advantage.

In fact, the first thing he said at his Monday press conference was not to ask him about who would be under center Thursday night against the New England Patriots.

Obviously, this situation was a little different.

Glenn was likely trying to withhold the Wilson information until the last possible second, keeping the division rival Patriots on their toes about whether or not the Jets’ biggest receiving threat would be available for Thursday night.

Well, thanks to Cimini, the cat’s out of the bag.

Reporters said to Glenn later in Tuesday’s press conference that they wanted to hear the injury information directly from him.

“You guys have been hearing it from me, but now, since Rich is reporting stuff that I haven’t said, then maybe you should ask Rich.”

What Does Garrett Wilson Say About His Injury?

The New York Jets’ wide receiver in question, Wilson, was later asked about his injury.

He had a swift response.

“You gotta ask coach.”

So even Wilson himself is as tight-lipped as his head coach.

New York’s No. 1 wideout had been out since Week 7, suffering the injury at the end of the Jets’ loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 6.

He suited up for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, but didn’t catch a single ball and tweaked his knee during the game.

Now, according to Cimini at least, the former Ohio State star could be out for another month.

Some have theorized that Wilson could be an injured reserve candidate, or even that the Jets could shut him down for the remainder of the season.

While a tough blow to an already lacking offense, New York could use the opportunity to provide increased targets and reps for new additions John Metchie and Adonai Mitchell.
