Jets’ Could Cash In Big Time On Star Player Trade Rumors

The New York Jets season has already been derailed just one month into the Aaron Glenn era. An 0-5 start means a playoff berth is nearly statistically impossible. That being said, the Jets are rumored to be heavy sellers at the NFL trade deadline which is fast approaching (November 4th).

I think it’s safe to assume aside from Aaron Glenn’s draftees and the players he extended in his first offseason with the team, everyone is up for grabs. This sentiment has been echoed by insiders and anonymous sources and now picked up by the national media with all eyes falling on one player in specific, running back Breece Hall.

The 24-year-old back has exploded in the first five games of the year, finding himself among the league’s best with 351 rushing yards on just 66 carries. His 150 receiving yards lands him just outside of the top five for backs.

Coming off a year in which he rushed for just 886 yards, Hall is a serious buy-high candidate and sources predict the Jets will take advantage of it.

“Now the Jets are 0-5, and while fellow running back Braelon Allen’s injury has guaranteed an uptick in action, time is running out for Aaron Glenn’s squad to even sniff relevance in 2025,” writes CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin who lists Hall as the second most attractive candidate in the league. “Fresh off a 100-yard outing in Week 5, isn’t it possible Hall actually has more value to Gang Green as a trade chip, considering he’s due to hit free agency after the season anyway?”

at 24-years-old and joining a squad so early in the season, Hall’s price tag would be lofty. But perhaps securing a day-two NFL draft pick for a player that they are set to pay is the absolute best case scenario in East Rutherford.

Something Has Been Fishy Since Preseason

One thing in particular that really stuck out from this Jets’ preseason, was the extensions that Aaron Glenn was handing out like candy. Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson got record breaking extensions. Jermaine Johnson got his fifth-year picked up for a massive 600% raise. Everyone from the 2022 draft class was eating, except for Breece Hall.

Hall did not get his fifth year picked up. At the time it was perceived as a slight, but positioned Hall on a prove it deal with the ability to make this season worth more than what a one-year extension could have even offered him.

Now, with the advantage of hind sight, the decision to not extend the running back made him the most acquirable star in the league. There isn’t a team in the NFL that can’t afford Breece on his rookie deal. He can now serve as a one year rental for any contender, or a cheap acquisition for a team that wishes to give him a long term extension.

Glenn’s decision to not extend Hall, whether or not you think he should be a piece of this team going forward, is proving to be a great move.

Potential Suitors

The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves once again without a premier running back one. They are emerging as a clear favorite to make a stab at Hall. But with no picks after the 5th round in next year’s draft, it is valid to question whether or not they’d be willing to give up more of their capital.

The Los Angeles Chargers lost running back Najee Harris for the season and potentially more. Should they be uncomfortable with giving their rookie phenom 100% of the workload going forward, the currently first place Chargers could be interested in buying another back.

How about the Chicago Bears. While contenders they are not, they are a young team with a young nucleus that should be looking to add talent wherever they can. Ben Johnson’s system depends on a bell cow running back. This move would see them acquire and extend a 24-year-old star.
