The New York Jets were completely outmatched in their 29â6 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The defense continued to struggle, allowing 412 total yards, marking the second consecutive game in which New York allowed more than 400 yards to their opponent.
The defensive struggles in recent weeks have made it difficult for the Jets to remain competitive, a trend that has become very clear as the team has now lost three straight games by at least 23 points.
“The Jets have now lost three straight games by 14+ points, their longest streak since 2019, per ESPN Research,” wrote ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The issues extended beyond yardage. After failing to record an interception against the Saints, New York has now set an NFL record by going 15 straight games without an interception, highlighting the defenseâs inability to generate takeaways this season.
“The Jets have not intercepted a pass since Jan. 5, 2025 — 2024 season finale, vs MIA. Ashtyn Davis had two INTs that day. This year, 461 passes attempted vs the Jets — 0 picks,” wrote Cimini.
Beyond going an entire season without an interception, the Jets defense has managed just three total turnovers, all of which were fumble recoveries, according to NFL.com.
“Schematically and fundamentally, this defense is completely broken,” said Connor Rogers of SNY.

Dive Into More Numbers
It is no surprise the Jets sit at 3â12 currently when looking at their points-for to points-against ratio.
New York averages 19.7 points per game while allowing 28.4 points per game, according to ESPN. This differential has them losing by more than one possession per game on average.
In Sundayâs loss, the Jets couldnât stop wide receiver Chris Olave, who scored two touchdowns and racked up 148 receiving yards (ESPN).
The Jets defense also allowed rookie quarterback Tyler Shough to surpass 300 passing yards, finishing with 308, which was the most of his career so far in an NFL game (ESPN).

Members of Team Speak Out
Glenn had a positive outlook on his teamâs performance on Sunday, even though it didnât result in a win.
“I thought they went out there and they fought hard. They did everything they could to keep us in this game,” said Glenn (SNYJets on X).
Following the loss, linebacker Quincy Williams said, “The biggest thing coming out as a defense today was more like pride. What do you want to put on tape as far as the next two weeks, next three weeks, however long we have? But also setting a foundation for the team that’s coming in for next year.”
It is no question that New York will shake things up in the offseason, and with the defense constantly struggling, changes on that side of the ball are likely.
The Jets have two more games to play before their season ends. If they donât record an interception in either game, they will finish the season without a single interception.
