Jets Immediately Rule out Starter for Dolphins Game

The New York Jets are dealing with some injuries immediately at the beginning of their prep for the Week 14 Miami Dolphins game.

Head coach Aaron Glenn revealed on Wednesday, December 3, that starting slot corner Jarvis Brownlee Jr has already been ruled out due to a hip injury.

“Alright, real quick on the injuries, here are some things that showed up. So Brownlee will be out this week, he has a hip,” Coach Glenn said.

2nd Straight Missed Game for Brownlee

Ahead of the Week 13 Atlanta Falcons game, Brownlee popped up on the injury report late in the week.

He was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but didn’t practice on Friday due to a hip issue.

He was initially listed as questionable for the Falcons game but was downgraded to doubtful a day before the game. Brownlee was listed as inactive for the Atlanta game.

Now, this week, he was immediately ruled out four days before the next game.

With Brownlee out, the Jets used a mixed bag of players to replace his snaps.

Rookie defensive back Malachi Moore appeared in 99% of the snaps, veteran Brandon Stephens appeared in 99% of the snaps, rookie cornerback Azareye’h Thomas appeared in 99% of the snaps, versatile DB Isaiah Oliver appeared in 59% of the snaps, cornerback Ja’Sir Taylor appeared in 43% of the snaps, and safety Tony Adams appeared in 42% of the snaps, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Another Injury the Jets Are Dealing With

The other player that was ruled out by Coach Glenn on Wednesday, December 3, was linebacker and key special teamer Marcelino McCrary-Ball.

“So Lino will be out this week. Alright, Lino has a hamstring,” Coach Glenn explained.

McCrary-Ball went viral for his unusual celebration after a big play in the Falcons game. He appeared to drop on the deck and flop like a fish, which resulted in a taunting penalty.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reacted on social media, saying, “This is one of the wildest celebrations I have ever seen. I can’t stop watching it.”

ESPN Radio Host Jake Asman posted, “One of the dumbest penalties you will ever see.”

This is one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen, but it’s unclear why this was considered a taunting penalty. McCrary-Ball didn’t seem to be directing his weird body convulsions at anyone in particular.

More Injury News to Monitor for the Jets Throughout the Rest of the Week

Brownlee and McCrary-Ball were the only players ruled out on Wednesday; the rest of the players are up in the air for the game.

“Tony [Adams] and Harrison [Phillips] won’t practice today. They will be good as the week progresses. Obviously, Harrison is getting a [vet] rest day. TA had a groin, alright, but he will be just fine. Qwan’tez [Stiggers] is going through concussion protocol, alright, but I think he will be just fine as it comes to that. Jermaine [Johnson] and Will [McDonald] will be limited, but they will be practicing,” Coach Glenn explained.

After having one of the healthiest injury reports of the season last week, the Jets are back to normal. Go figure.
