The New York Jets have struck a deal to keep one of their own.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter shared on Friday, December 12, that the Jets have extended offensive lineman Josh Myers on a two-year $11 million contract extension. That will keep him under team control through the 2027 campaign.
Myers was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.
“Jets now have four of their five starting offensive linemen under contract for next year,” Schefter posted on social media.
Jets Lock in Myers as Part of the Offensive Line Puzzle
Myers, 27, joined the Jets this offseason on a one-year deal for $2 million. So this extension provides a sizable raise for the former Ohio State product.
He was signed to compete with Joe Tippmann for the starting center gig. Myers lost the battle and was set to be a backup.
However, right before the season started, starting right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker tore his triceps.
The Jets called an audible at the line of scrimmage by playing musical chairs on the O-Line. Tippmann kicked from center to right guard, replacing AVT in the lineup. Myers went from the bench to the starting lineup to fill the void at center.
The Jets are the only team in the NFL that has started the same five offensive linemen in every game this season. That is the first time the Jets have accomplished that as a team since 2012.
This Was a Smart Proactive Signing by the Jets GM
Before joining the Jets, Myers had started 56 games for the Green Bay Packers across his first four NFL seasons.
This is a player who has plenty of NFL experience, playoff experience, and the ability to play both guard and center.
Myers’ signing this deal now, months ahead of free agency, is good business by the Jets. This new contract doesn’t guarantee him a starting job heading into 2026. However, it provides the front office optionality heading into a critical offseason.
The Jets had three of their offensive linemen scheduled to hit free agency this offseason. That group included starting left guard John Simpson, Vera-Tucker, and Myers.
With Myers under contract, the Jets can now shift their focus to Simpson and AVT.
This is a developing story and we’ll provide more details as they become available.
