Jets Make Announcement on QB Justin Fields Before Eagles Game

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields will not play in the preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Jets QB Justin Fields is sitting on the bench with RB Isaiah Davis wearing a cap, hoodie, and shorts during ST warmups. Safe to say he’ll be among the starters who won’t play tonight vs. the Eagles. Brady Cook and Adrian Martinez at QB,” Dennis Waszak Jr of the Associated Press posted on social media.

Fields Is on Ice Until the 2025 Regular Season

Head coach Aaron Glenn revealed to the media that “some” starters wouldn’t play against Philadelphia. However, he didn’t get into the specifics, instead simply responding that they had a “plan” and they would stick with it.

With Fields on the bench, that means his preseason is over.

There was some good.

In the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, Fields delivered a 10-play 79-yard touchdown drive. He completed 75% of his passes, had 42 passing yards, and added 14 yards with a rushing score.

There was some bad.

In Week 2 versus the New York Giants, Fields struggled statistically. He finished 1-for-5, had four passing yards, and he had five rushing yards. He was out there for two drives: one ended in a punt and another in a field goal.

The next time Fields steps on the field, it’ll be for real. Week 1, the Jets will welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, September 7.

Only One Starter Expected to Suit up for the Jets

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic only spotted one “projected starter” who was in uniform ahead of the Jets-Eagles preseason finale, Armand Membou.

“Rookie needs game reps ahead of the season,” Rosenblatt explained.

Membou is the only rookie projected to start on the offensive line. The rest of the group has starting experience at the NFL level.

Membou has been up and down during training camp.

Rosenblatt said on “Jets Final Drive” that he has seen some highlights that have impressed him during the offseason from Membou. However, NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY said there were some alarming moments when Membou went against Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux both in joint practice and during the preseason game.

Last Chance for Youngsters to Make an Impression

With the majority of starters not playing for the Jets, the spotlight turns to those last precious roster spots.

One game can be all the difference for some of these bubble players on the roster.

There are position battles still happening at center, defensive end, linebacker, wide receiver, running back, and at the safety spot. There are depth chart battles and determinations for the 53-man roster versus the practice squad up for grabs.
