Jets Make Final Call on Quincy Williams for Bengals Game

The New York Jets are getting a big return on the defensive side of the ball.

Linebacker Quincy Williams was activated off injured reserve and returned to the active 53-man roster. Williams had missed the last four games due to injury.

Dennis Waszak Jr of the Associated Press posted on social media, “LB Quincy Williams is back.”

A Lot More Bad News on the Jets’ Inactive List

Williams is good to go for the Week 8 Cincinnati Bengals game. However, several other key contributors won’t be available for the green and white.

The Jets’ inactive list of players included: cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, running back Kene Nwangwu, defensive tackle Jay Tufele, tight end Stone Smartt, and new addition, rookie linebacker Kobe King.

King was claimed on waivers from the Minnesota Vikings this week.

How Many Jets Will Play Their Final Game Today?

Who wins this Week 8 game between the 0-7 Jets and the 3-4 Bengals is somewhat inconsequential. However, what will really matter is that this is the final game for the Jets ahead of the Tuesday, November 4, trade deadline.

“With a bye in Week 9, the Jets are playing their last game before the Nov. 4 trading deadline. There might be a familiar name or two missing by the time they suit up again. The rumors are flying, and, yes, they seep into conversations among players around the team facility, they said. One player said it comes up a lot in the cafeteria. It’s only natural for them to wonder who might be on the move. This is what happens on noncontending teams,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini explained on Sunday, October 26.

Cimini revealed some of the players on the Jets who have been mentioned as trade candidates ahead of the deadline.

That group includes: defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Quincy, pass rusher Will McDonald, cornerback Michael Carter II, and running back Breece Hall.

Quinnen Williams is under contract through 2027, but he could look to renegotiate because he has only $5 million guaranteed in 2026. That situation bears watching. He could fetch a high-round pick. That, plus the cap relief, might be appealing,” Cimini said.

“The big name on offense is Breece Hall, who appears headed for free agency. Owner Woody Johnson, speaking to reporters this week, was noncommittal on Hall, saying he didn’t want to speculate on whether the running back is part of the long-term plan,” Cimini added.

Williams’ Return Is Important for the Jets Defense and Ahead of Trade Deadline

The Jets can use Williams on the football field, but his return to the field opens up the trade doors.

Williams is in the final year of his contract. The Jets already paid one off-ball linebacker, Jamien Sherwood; it’s unlikely they pay two.

If Williams was injured, he couldn’t have been flipped ahead of the trade deadline. With him returning to health, the Jets now have options to strongly consider. The former All-Pro linebacker would garner significant interest from contending teams around the league.

Keep an eye on the Atlanta Falcons (Jeff Ulbrich) and the San Francisco 49ers (Robert Saleh) as potential fits.
