The New York Jets keep fumbling the football.
Running back Breece Hall had a momentum-shifting fumble in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets (0-5) lost, 37-22, to the Cowboys (2-2-1).
Just a week prior, the Jets fumbled the ball three times. Running back Braelon Allen fumbled on the goal line before leaving the game with an injury, while quarterback Justin Fields lost the ball later in the game. And kick returner Isaiah Williams fumbled to start the second half and was cut from the roster.

Aaron Glenn Trying to Take the Blame
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn tried to take the blame postgame instead of it being placed on Hall and the players.
“I gotta figure out a way to get our guys going,” Glenn said. “I have to look at myself.”
Fields also noted the troubling trend.
“I think the only reason it was as deflating as it was is because the exact same thing happened last week,” Fields said.
Fields on Playoffs? ‘First Time for Everything’
Misery at the Meadowlands continues as no NFL team in history has made the playoffs after starting 0-5. But in recent years the NFL expanded the number of games team’s play in a season to 17. So, the Jets aren’t mathematically out of it, yet.
At least Fields is still optimistic about the team’s chances to make the postseason.
“There’s a first time for everything,” Fields said. “But we’re not basing our life off of statistics.”

According to ESPN Research, the Jets are also the first team in NFL history to start 0-5 and have no takeaways on defense.
The Jets face the Denver Broncos Week 6 Sunday morning from London.
How Many Teams Have Gone Winless?
The Jets could make history for all the wrong reasons if they go winless the rest of the year. No team in NFL history has finished with a record of 0-17, but there are several winless seasons, including four in the Super Bowl-era.
The 2017 Cleveland Browns went 0-16 under head coach Hue Jackson. It was actually All-Pro Myles Garrett’s rookie season. The Browns lost 19 games in row stretching from the final game of 2016 season to Week 3 of the 2018 season.
The 2008 Detroit Lions also went 0-16 under head coach Rod Marinelli. Quarterbacks on the roster included Daunte Culpepper, Drew Henson, Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton. The Lions lost 20 games in a row, beginning the final week of the 2007 season and ending in Week 3 of the 2009 season.
The 1982 Baltimore Colts went 0-8-1 during the strike-shortened season, while the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 0-14 in their debut season. The Bucs started their franchise 0-26.
There were eight instances before the NFL-AFL merger when a team went winless. Those teams are:
- 1960 Dallas Cowboys (0-11-1)
- 1944 Brooklyn Tigers (0-10)
- 1944 Chicago-Pittsburgh Cardinals-Steelers (0-10)
- 1943 Chicago Cardinals (0-10)
- 1942 Detroit Lions (0-11)
- 1934 Cincinnati Red (0-8)
- 1925 Columbus Tigers (0-9)
- 1922 Columbus Panhandles (0-8)
