Jimmy Butler Explains ‘Scary’ Warriors’ Advantage

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Golden State Warriors secured their fourth win in five games. Steve Kerr’s team has hit the ground running in the 2025-26 season and is quickly proving itself as a championship contender.

When speaking to the media after the game, star forward Jimmy Butler pinpointed Golden State’s depth as a potential swing factor for the franchise, especially as we get deeper into the season.

“You know, me and GP (Gary Payton II) were just talking about that, how deep this team really is,” Butler said. “And, you know, we don’t have certain guys back yet or in full motion of what they could and will be doing. It’s, um, it’s a good thing for us and it’s a scary thing for everybody else.”

The Warriors have a roster full of talent that can step into the rotation and make an impact. There’s a solid balance between veterans and younger players looking to prove themselves and earn their minutes. After all, second-year big man Quinten Post started the game at the center position, while both Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski made a difference off the bench.

Warriors To Keep Al Horford In The Second Unit

Al Horford was the Warriors’ marquee free agent addition this summer. The veteran big man signed a two-year deal with the franchise after his contract with the Boston Celtics expired. Horford, 39, has come off the bench in three games for Golden State.

Speaking to the media after his team’s latest win, Kerr said he wants to keep bringing Horford off the bench.

“I really want to just bring Al off the bench if he’s going to be playing 20 minutes, 20 to 25 minutes,” Kerr said. “I’d rather have him come off the bench and be able to close with him if we need to, like we did against Denver.”

Horford is a consummate professional. He will likely embrace a bench role, especially if it means the team remains competitive throughout the season. After all, Horford teamed up with the Warriors to have a shot at competing for a championship.

Warriors Have Balance

In recent years, the Warriors have struggled to straddle two developmental timelines. However, as some of those younger talents have begun to take the next steps in their development, a genuine balance has emerged within Golden State’s rotation.

The youth on offer is now a welcome addition, as it provides respite for the veterans, who, at least for stretches, will likely need a lighter workload. Kerr also deploys a high-octane system, and having multiple youthful bodies to throw into that system is an advantage Golden State hasn’t had in previous years.

In Podziemski, Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Will Richard and Quentin Post, the Warriors have a future core to be excited about. For now, though, that young core will play a supplementary role to the veteran stars on the roster.

If they can help lead the franchise to a fifth championship of the Stephen Curry era, then the passing of the torch will likely be right around the corner.
