Josh Hart Opens Up After $185K Jewelry Theft at NYC Hotel

New York Knicks forward Josh Hart dealt with a costly and unsettling moment in early September when $185,000 worth of watches and jewelry disappeared from his room at The Dominick Hotel in SoHo, per Hoodline. ABC7NY reported that Hart left a duffle bag inside his room around noon on September 5. When he came back roughly an hour later, the watch case that held three watches and a bracelet no longer sat where he left it. Police began investigating soon after the report came in. The New York Post noted that officers have not taken anyone into custody and have not released any description connected to the incident.

The theft involved a high-profile player who quickly became a central figure for New York after his arrival in 2023. Hart made an immediate impact, and last season he set a franchise record for the most triple doubles in a single campaign. His name carries weight inside the organization, and the loss caught the attention of fans and media across the league.

Hart Remains Lighthearted with Jalen Brunson Joke

Even after losing items worth nearly two hundred thousand, Hart kept things playful when fans tried to turn the ordeal into a joke about his longtime friend and teammate, Jalen Brunson. A social media meme accused Brunson of orchestrating the heist. Hart responded the same way he handles most moments with his Villanova brother.

“Bro is the worst 😂😂😂,” Hart wrote on social media, brushing off the post with humor that Knicks fans know well, per The Big Lead. The two maintain one of the closest bonds in the NBA, and Hart’s reaction reflected a dynamic built over years of friendship.

The moment also showed that Hart feels grounded despite the hit to his belongings. He currently plays on a four-year, $80 million contract, and the Knicks continue to fight near the top of the Eastern Conference with a 12-6 record. Winning does not erase a theft, but it makes the atmosphere lighter, and Hart’s mood reflected that.

Growing Concern Around High-Value Thefts

The Dominick Hotel sits on Spring Street near Varick Street, a 46-story property known for its floor-to-ceiling views of the city and the Hudson River. The hotel features restaurants, a bar, a seasonal outdoor pool, and event spaces. According to its website, it stands as the only independent hotel in New York to hold a Five Diamond recognition from AAA.

CoStar recently reported that Cain, an investment management firm, acquired the property for $175 million and plans to rebrand it as the Delano SoHo New York luxury condo hotel, the NY Post reports. Guests move through a polished space that caters to high-end travelers, which makes the incident involving Hart even more striking.

His case also arrived one day after a separate robbery attempt made headlines across Manhattan. Police said an 87-year-old man fought off two individuals who tried to snatch his Rolex outside a Gramercy Park senior center. The watch carried a value of $48,000, and the story echoed a troubling pattern of criminals targeting expensive items in affluent areas.

Breaking911 summarized Hart’s situation in a post on X, noting the timeline and the disappearance of the watch case from his room. The post reiterated that authorities have not taken further action on the case as of now.

As the investigation continues, Hart’s response and humor have stood out. He showed resilience, leaned on his friendship with Brunson, and kept moving while the Knicks continue their strong start.
