Jurgen Klopp responds to speculation over shock managerial return at Roma

Jurgen Klopp’s agent has poured cold water on shock reports linking him with a return to management at Italian club Roma.

Klopp stepped down from his role as Liverpool boss at the end of last season, citing his diminishing energy levels having been in the role for nine years.

The German has stayed in and around football, though, and shortly after took on a long-term role as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull.

Despite insisting he was in no hurry to return to the dugout, the 57-year-old has nevertheless seen his name linked with several managerial vacancies across the footballing world.

Last month, Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, insisted that his client had no intention of entering into discussions regarding potential roles at Real Madrid or Brazil.

And Kosicke has again spoken up after reports in Italy linked Klopp with a shock move to Serie A side Roma.

La Stampa reported that Klopp had a change of heart and told Roma president Dan Friedkin that he was keen to replace the outgoing Claudio Ranieri.

But speaking to Qatar-based Winwin Sports, Klopp’s agent said: ‘Reports on Klopp becoming new AS Roma manager are not true.’

While Klopp left behind Liverpool at the end of last season, the German has still been keeping a close eye on his former club and was one of the first to celebrate their Premier League title win under Arne Slot.

Posting on Instagram after the Reds wrapped up the title with a win over Tottenham, Klopp wrote: ‘Grateful for the past. Super, super happy about the present [and] extremely positive about the future! Congratulations – YNWA. Thank You Luv.’

Klopp even reached out to his his successor at Anfield, Arne Slot, to personally congratulate the Dutchman on his remarkable first season in charge on Merseyside.

‘The most famous person who messaged me? I assume it was Jürgen [Klopp]!’ Slot revealed shortly after Liverpool’s title win.

‘What did he say? Congratulations, now I know what a special club it is, I am part of history, this type of stuff, he was really happy for the fans and the club.’
