During their time together on the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green didn’t always get along. But now, years after they’ve been apart, the two have agreed on some recent criticism of today’s sports media.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, legendary actor Denzel Washington called out ‘talking heads’ in sports media.
“All the shows are a bunch of guys…who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it,” Washington said. “Those who have, know what they’re talking about. Those who haven’t, don’t. Period.”
Durant responded to the quote with three ‘🔥‘ emojis, while Green took to his Instagram story to say, ‘Some Can! Most Can’t! Shut Up!!! Preach 🐐.”
Washington’s Sports Media Comments
Washington is on a media tour promoting a new movie, but has turned his attention to calling out those in daily sports media who comment on issues they have little knowledge about.
Specifically, the former ‘Best Actor‘ award winner discussed Bronny James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Shedeur Sanders of the Cleveland Browns. Washington said he doesn’t understand why sports media personalities seem forced to have opinions on topics that have little to no consequences.
“Everybody’s got an opinion. In fact, we live in a world of ‘opinionaires,’“ said Washington. “That’s what I call them, ‘opinionaires.‘ They’re on all the shows, a bunch of the guys, a couple that have played, but most of them who haven’t who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it.”
Interestingly enough, Washington then went on First Take just days after his Sports Illustrated interview, sitting alongside Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, someone who many credit as being one of those sports media personalities he was calling out.
In that appearance, Washington was less critical of the ‘opinionaires‘ and turned his criticism towards Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
“I don’t like what Dallas is doing. I know they’re making a lot of money and I’m happy for their owner, but the fans ain’t happy,” Washington said. “All money ain’t good money, Jerry.”
Durant And Green Have Been Busy On Social Media
While Durant and Green’s responses to Washington’s comments were their latest impressions made on social media, both have been active on multiple platforms this offseason, responding to questions, comments, and criticism about their teams, teammates, and recent performances.
Durant has been more active on X, as in August, he commented on the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s 2025 NBA Finals win, upset Warriors fans, and the topic itself of arguing with fans on social media.
Green, on the other hand, has been active on Threads. He made headlines for responding to a question about Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., and the job he has done this summer as it relates to the team’s lack of moves amid their Jonathan Kuminga contract standoff.
He also commented on new teammate Jimmy Butler, who arrived in Golden State at the February trade deadline and brought an immediate impact to the team in the final months of the regular season.
Both Durant and Green have been active and never afraid to share their true feelings on social media. While on the basketball court, Durant is much quieter, Green remains one of the top trash-talkers and technical-foul recipients in NBA history.
Despite their differences while playing together, they have mended their relationship and agree with Washington’s comments on sports media.
