The Minnesota Vikings‘ 2025 campaign certainly has not gone according to plan, but the team is still fighting hard down the stretch of the regular season. After picking up a blowout 31-0 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 14, Kevin O’Connell‘s crew will look to play spoiler against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 15.
Dallas has been one of the most confusing teams in the league this season, but when it is playing its best football, it looks like a Super Bowl contender. The Cowboys have several superstar players leading the charge, and according to O’Connell, one of those players has resulted in the Vikings drastically changing the team’s game plan for this contest.
Kevin O’Connell Shouts Out Brandon Aubrey Ahead of Vikings-Cowboys Clash
Even though they have just a 6-6-1 record, the Cowboys have stars all over their roster. On offense, the trio of Dak Prescott at quarterback and CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens at wide receiver is incredibly dangerous. And while the team traded away Micah Parsons before the start of the season, guys like Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Quinnen Williams still headline the defensive side of the ball.
It’s rare for a team to have a superstar kicker, but Dallas has that, too, in Brandon Aubrey. After bursting onto the scene from seemingly out of nowhere in 2023, Aubrey has established himself as the top player at his position in the league, thanks to his ability to hit kicks from seemingly impossible distances with an impressive level of accuracy.
Aubrey is such a weapon that opposing teams have to always be aware that the Cowboys are a threat to pick up three points if they are at or near midfield. When discussing the All-Pro kicker, O’Connell made it clear that the threat of Aubrey’s leg is something that Minnesota has accounted for in its game plan ahead of this big contest.
“You gotta understand that situational football could be different,” O’Connell said when discussing Aubrey’s impact on the Vikings’ special teams preparations. “He’s a weapon. The fact that we’re even talking about this right now shows you that he’s a weapon in the football game.”
Vikings Looking to Build Some Positive Momentum by Taking Down Cowboys

As O’Connell notes, the fact that a kicker is playing a legitimate role in how the Vikings prepare for this game goes to show you just how good he is. Aubrey appears to be on track for another All-Pro selection, as he’s made 27 of his 29 field goal attempts, while only missing one of his 39 extra point attempts.
Even though Aubrey is drawing some special attention from O’Connell and Minnesota’s coaching staff, there are several other players whom the team will have to properly account for if it wants to come out on top. In a season full of disappointments, the Vikings will look to generate some positive momentum by earning their second straight victory, with kickoff for this contest being scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
