Knicks Duo Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns Quietly Taking Off

The New York Knicks have plenty of solid players in their lineup ahead of the 2025-26 season, and they’re continuing to round out there roster. While there are some questions as to the role of their player sin the new seasons under new head coach Mike Brown, there are some things that are just a given.

Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns are a strong duo, and the association is starting to take notice. Even though Brunson and Towns were not perfect together by the end of their first season playing together, that may change under Brown. In fact, it would be surprising to not see this duo change for the better.

In a segment on ESPN Today that aired on Wednesday, July 23, Andscape’s David Dennis Jr. spoke about where he thinks the Knicks’ prized duo ranks among the NBA’s best players. Let’s just say that those who love the Knicks will dig what he says.

The Knicks Have One of the Best Duos in the Association

On the show, Dennis Jr. sang the praises of Brunson and Towns. He actually thinks they’re the second best duo in the league.

“I think the best duo in the East, and the second best duo in the league, is actually Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns for what they’ve done,” he said on the show. “We saw last season, offensively, they were unstoppable for large portions in that season. Especially when they got that pick-and-roll going [that] they didn’t utilize enough.”

So, why is Dennis Jr. so confident about this duo being able to deliver this season? It’s because of Brown, of course. Having a new head coach and Brown’s approach could be just the boost this duo needs.

“Now, you bring Mike Brown into that organization—a guy who is going to move the ball around, who’s going to go to a little bit more of the pick-and-roll, a little bit more of those hand-offs,” he said. “We already saw, at their height, those guys had those five 20-point games each in the one [playoff ] series. We hadn’t seen that since Shaq and Kobe.”

He added of the Knicks, “I think they’re going to level up offensively this year, and be the second-best duo in the league, and the best duo in the Eastern Conference.”

The Best Duo in the NBA

So, if Brunson and Towns are No. 2, who makes up the best duo in the NBA? In a feature from Dan Favale of The Daily Knicks published on Thursday, July 24, he notes that the best would be an Oklahoma City duo. But, that doesn’t mean the Thunder duo is really better.

“The panel on NBA Today was working off the assumption that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently the Association’s best one-two punch,” he says. “That by itself will be considered debatable, depending on how you feel about J-Dub.”

The honor of being named No. 1 is really up for grabs more than one might think, with Favale noting, “You will notice, however, nobody is running away with this honor.”

So, it’s possible that by the end of the 2025-26 season, Brunson and Towns will be crowned the best in the association.
