Knicks’ Jalen Brunson Shares Childhood Goal He Is Still Pursuing

Jalen Brunson has achieved a lot in his career as he continues to chase accomplishments as the leading star of the New York Knicks. However, there is one goal from his childhood he is still pursuing.

Brunson rose through the ranks to become one of the best players in the NBA, especially at the point guard position. He went from being a spark plug for the Dallas Mavericks to being the current face of the Knicks squad. This allowed him to become an All-Star as well as an All-NBA talent, but one goal remains on his mind.

Brunson made an Aug. 25 appearance on the Roommates Show alongside Knicks teammate Josh Hart and Matt Hillman. He revealed his goals moving forward at this point of his career, pointing out one from his childhood.

“All of my goals are basically team-based. That hasn’t changed. So, it’s about obviously winning — wanting to win a championship,” Brunson said. “That hasn’t changed. But I feel like success is subjective to what you want. People think you make a lot of money. That’s a successful career. It can be to some people, but obviously, others may be able to win. It varies from person to person, but I think, obviously, going through a journey and trying to perfect who you are as a basketball player, and then do whatever you can to try to win a championship.

“My definition of success has not changed. Honestly, I don’t know why I just babbled. It hasn’t changed. You win or you don’t succeed. Plain and simple,” Brunson concluded.

It will be a tall task for Jalen Brunson and the Knicks to fulfill, as the franchise hasn’t won an NBA title since 1973. However, it’s one they are getting close to thanks to their playoff run last year.

Brunson spearheaded the Knicks attack in an incredible postseason, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. They were close to returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 but saw their run end after losing in six games to the Indiana Pacers.

Brunson proved himself throughout the regular season and postseason as a big-time player. He averaged 26 points, 7.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game after 65 appearances. He shot 48.8% from the field, including 38.3% from beyond the arc, and 82.1% from the free-throw line.

The Knicks star took it up a notch in the playoffs. He produced 29.4 points, seven assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest, lighting up the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics with his scoring efforts. He boasted shooting splits of 46.1%, 35.8% and 85.1%, respectively.

New York added pieces this offseason, particularly Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele to bolster the second unit. With the overall roster looking stronger than last season’s, championship aspirations will be on their minds as Brunson looks to finally achieve his childhood dream.
