Knicks Predicted to Add $10 Million Stud as Mikal Bridges Backup

The New York Knicks have most of their main roster going into the 2024-25 season filled out, but there are two key spots remaining. So, new head coach Mike Brown has to make some big decisions coming up, and his moves will hopefully add some much-needed depth to the team’s roster.

Looking around, a lot of the big names in free agency are gone at this point. But, not all hope is lost. There’s always a chance to find a diamond in the rough, and the Knicks could do just that to fill those few remaining positions on their roster.

Brown is expected to bring speed to the Knicks’ game, because he’s known for his fast-paced coaching style. That will be a change for the Knicks, and it would help to have someone on the team’s roster who is already familiar with playing fast. One of the reasons the New York Knicks fell in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers is because the Pacers outpaced them, pun intended. But, hopefully that won’t happen again. Not with Brown heading up the squad.

Knicks Should Sang This Player

One solid player who’s still available in free agency is Amir Coffey, who last played with the Los Angeles Clippers. During the Tuesday, July 15, episode of SNY’s The Putback with Ian Begley, Lee Escobedo said that he would like to see the Knicks snag Coffey with the leverage that they have remaining. New York has already added Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele to their roster this offseason, but they still have room left to make the Coffey deal.

Coffey would be not only a great addition to a lineup featuring star player Jalen Brunson but, in general, add depth and speed to the team during their 2025-26 season. He would be one of the wings in the Knicks’ squad, along with Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart.

In a piece published on Tuesday, July 14, in The Daily Knicks, Atticus O’Brien-Pappalardo says that “Coffey would provide some additional depth there in case of injury, although he likely wouldn’t get any serious minutes as the roster is currently constructed.”

New Knicks Player Could ‘Space the Floor’

O’Brien-Pappalardo adds, “The other clear positive of adding Coffey is that he can space the floor, which fits the spaced-out style of offense that Mike Brown wants to run in New York.”

On the flip side of things, “Coffey isn’t a great defender,” O’Brien-Pappalardo notes, “but he does provide some size off the bench that the Knicks’ backup guards don’t have. The wing stands at 6 feet and 7 inches tall, which at least gives him the athletic tools to contest most jump shooters.”

It would absolutely make sense for the Knicks to make this deal. Coffey is one of the few stellar remaining free agents, so it would be wise for the Knicks to jump on this chance to lock him in. While he wouldn’t help with providing direct backup to Brunson and probably wouldn’t get a ton of playing time, it would certainly help add wing depth, and that’s something New York will need.
