Lakers’ Bronny James Hit With Potential Career-Ending Speculation

When the Los Angeles Lakers decided to select Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, no one knew what his future would hold.

Some felt that James could develop into a quality role player at the NBA level. Others felt that he would end up being a bust and that his career wouldn’t last too long.

Through his first two years thus far, James hasn’t shown too much for the Lakers to be excited about.

A new suggestion has been made that the end of James’ NBA career may not be too far away. With the rumors surrounding his dad’s potential departure from Los Angeles, could the team consider parting ways with Bronny? If the Lakers do part ways with him, would the young guard find another place to play?

The End of Bronny James’ NBA Career Has Been Suggested

FanSided’s Rucker Haringey has revealed an honest thought process about James’ uncertain NBA future.

“If LeBron James leaves Los Angeles it does diminish the chances of Bronny getting another full season to showcase his wares with the Lakers,” Haringey wrote.

“The real problem for the younger James is that he lacks the talent to be a quality rotation player in the NBA. That, more than his father’s career decisions, will ultimately wash him out of the league sometime in the next two years.”

Not only did Haringey suggest that James’ future could be in doubt, he made a quiet bold prediction on the matter. His last sentence of the above snippet predicted that James would be out of the NBA within the next two years.

What Has James Been Able to Do in His First Two Seasons?

Throughout his first two years in the NBA, James has played in a total of 64 games and has received two starts. He has averaged 2.4 points and an assist per game, totaling 151 points, 63 assists, 35 rebounds, and 23 steals.

At just 21 years old, it’s just a bit too early to give up on him. There is undoubtedly a lot of work for him to do to prove that he belongs in the NBA, but he still has another year to show that development.

James would be an instant cut candidate for the Lakers if his dad does leave town. Should that scenario unfold, the younger James would need to try and latch onto a two-way contract or play his way up through the G-League.

The honest outlook for James doesn’t look good long-term. However, there have been players who have salvaged careers with hard work. Perhaps James can add his name to that list.
