Lakers Sign-And-Trade Pitch Lands 22 PPG Scoring Machine

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga and Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey aren’t the only high-profile restricted free agents entering the 2025-26 season. Philadelphia 76ers wing Quentin Grimes, who averaged 21.9 points per game in 28 contests last season, could be on the move to a new team.

Fadeaway World proposed an ambitious sign-and-trade scenario that would see the Lakers land Grimes in exchange for two rotational players and a first-round pick.

Lakers would receive: Quentin Grimes

76ers would receive: Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, 2031 first-round pick

“This trade would be immensely favorable for the Purple and Gold,” read the article. “The addition of Quentin Grimes would not only bolster their overall roster depth but would also give them a much-needed scoring option off the bench.

“Grimes has shown a lot of potential as an offensive player, both as a starter and as a bench player. The 25-year-old had two vastly different stretches of play last season.”

Redick, Grimes Worked Out Together

If the hypothetical sign-and-trade comes to pass, Grimes may fit in well in Los Angeles due to his relationship with second-year head coach JJ Redick. In 2023, the two trained together as part of a Team USA minicamp, an experience Grimes thoroughly enjoyed.

After the session, Grimes, a member of the Knicks at the time, spoke to SNY about the lessons he learned from Lakers coach Redick.

“It was probably the best two days I’ve had all summer. A 15-year NBA veteran. Seen it all, done it all, played on multiple teams,” Grimes said of working out with Redick.

“Played in the playoffs, played in big games. So just talking to him, at the gym, at his house. Going to dinner with him with his family. I couldn’t ask for a better two days, honestly.”

Latest on Grimes-76ers Contract Talks

According to The Athletic’s Tony Jones, Grimes is seeking a contract in the range of $25 million per year, but the 76ers have been hesitant to offer such a deal.

“The Sixers have been in contact with Grimes and his camp, although the price may end up being steep,” Jones wrote.

“Grimes, 25, is looking for a contract that averages $25 million per season, league sources tell The Athletic. He has emerged as a dynamic scoring guard, and he gives the Sixers a mix of the ability to shoot from the perimeter and get to the basket and put pressure on the rim off the dribble.”

Jones explained why it was imperative for the 76ers — who can match any offer sheets for the guard — to retain Grimes, given the departure of Guerschon Yabusele.

“Grimes is important to the Sixers because they need to retain all the talent they can — and he has emerged as a talent,” he wrote.

“Between Grimes, Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and the newly drafted VJ Edgecombe, the strength of Philadelphia’s roster resides in its backcourt. Grimes is versatile enough to move to the small forward spot, which would allow head coach Nick Nurse to employ three-guard lineups. He’s someone who also defends well enough to make an impact at the point of attack.”
