Lakers Star LeBron’s Post to Cavs Fans Trade Wind

A LeBron James congratulatory tweet to a Cleveland Cavaliers executive has gone viral amid the speculation surrounding his future with the Los Angeles Lakers

On July 14, ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Cavaliers president Koby Altman and his front office, including general manager Mike Gansey and assistant GM Brandon Weems, received contract extensions.

James quickly sent his congratulations to Weems.

“YESSIR!!! Congratulations to my brother B.Weems!! Super proud of u man 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🤎 ,” James posted on X, tweet-quoting Charania’s report.

James’ latest social media post has fans speculating about his return to Cleveland in the comments.

“Begging for the Cavs to trade you on Twitter, we’re familiar with your game Bronze,” one fan wrote.

“Come home 👑,” another fan commented.

“Return to your throne, @KingJames,” another fan chimed in.

“When is the trade to the Cavs happening?” one fan asked.

“Lebron back to the Cavs confirmed,” another fan concluded.

But while fans are jumping into rampant speculations and conclusions, the fact is Weems is James’ childhood friend and a former teammate on St. Vincent-St. Mary high school basketball team.

Weems’ mother, Brenda Lewis-Weems, was James’ godmother, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote in 2020 when James sought help to seek justice over the death of Ericka Weems, Brandon’s sister, by shooting in Florida.

Brandon was the Cavaliers’ director of scouting at the time. He joined the Cavaliers organization as a college scout in 2015.

But while James’ congratulatory post on X was warranted, one fan chided the Lakers star for throwing more fire to the rumors of his uncertain future in Los Angeles.

“Could have just texted him, bro,” the fan wrote.

Another fan could not help but comment, “Bron and his media games lol.”

Rich Paul’s Cryptic Statement Sparks Rumors

On June 29, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul sparked the trade rumors with his cryptic statement after James opted into his $52.6 million player option.

“LeBron wants to compete for a championship,” Paul told Charania on June 29. “He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we’ve had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.”

For the first time since he joined the Lakers, James will become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

“We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future,” Paul continued. “We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what’s best for him.”

Paul added that James will closely monitor the Lakers’ offseason.

LeBron Dodges Questions About His Lakers Future

During James’ first public appearance over the weekend in the NBA Summer League since Rich Paul’s cryptic statement, the Lakers star turned down ESPN’s request to sit down on the broadcast for an interview.

“I ain’t got nothing to talk about,” James told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin before the ESPN broadcast of the NBA Summer League game between the Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans on July 12.

The Lakers beat reporter added that several NBA teams have reached out to Paul to gauge his superstar client’s availability.

“Paul also made it clear to me that LeBron has not asked for a trade, and Paul has not even discussed the possibility of wanting a trade in the future with the Lakers,” McMenamin said. “Paul did tell me that four teams contacted him with interest in trading for LeBron, though, so now we wait.”
