Lane Kiffin Decision Draws Strong Reaction From Talking Heads

On Saturday, Nov. 29, Lane Kiffin is officially announcing his decision on being the new head coach of the LSU Tigers or staying with the Ole Miss Rebels for the 2026 season.

It’s a huge announcement, and all of college football is waiting in anticipation of his final decision. Kiffin has been one of the most sought-after coaches in today’s college football landscape.

The Florida Gators were also interested in him, but it’s reported that he’s down to just two teams: LSU or staying with Ole Miss. On Friday, Nov. 28, Kiffin said that he would make his decision public on Saturday, noting that, “I feel like I’ve got to.”

“There’s a lot [that goes] into it,” Kiffin said in regards to the move. “It’s a hard decision. You guys have them all the time. You’ve got to make decisions about jobs you take and where you move, and we get paid a lot, so I understand we’re under a lot of spotlight and scrutiny.”

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss

If Kiffin decides to leave Ole Miss, the school will likely not let him coach in the College Football Playoff. That would be a heartbreaker, because Kiffin and Ole Miss have a solid chance to make it to the SEC title game.

Since Texas upset Texas A&M on Friday evening, Ole Miss can get to that SEC title game if Alabama falls in their game this weekend. So, if Ole Miss makes it to the coveted SEC title game, Kiffin likely won’t be able to coach at that game, after all of the hard work he put in this season.

Plenty of talked heading discussed the situation on Saturday morning on the college football shows. On ESPN’s “College GameDay,” legendary coach Nick Saban said, “What do you do at Ole Miss, when they have never been in the SEC championship game ever and if Alabama’s loses they get in the SEC championship game and they’re not going to allow Lane to in that game? That’s crazy.”

Earlier this week, appearing on Pat McAfee Show, Saban said, “I think you have to be upfront and honest with your team about things like this. Anytime we had a disruption or a distraction, I brought it up to the team and I challenged them to handle it in a mature way.”

He added, “… How you handle distractions like this determines the maturity of your team and their ability to stay focused on the things that matter. What people are saying on the internet, doesn’t really mean anything.”

Former Florida and South Carolina Coach Talks Lane Kiffin

During an appearance on Another Dooley Noted podcast, Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said he admires Kiffin’s desire to stay with Ole Miss through the end of the season.

“Everybody is waiting to see what Lane Kiffin is going to do on Saturday after the Egg Bowl,” Spurrier said. “It is a touchy situation… Lane Kiffin coming out and saying, ‘Hey, I am going to coach this team until the season is over. If nobody wants to wait for me, I don’t care.’”

So now, the college football world waits. This is certainly one of the most anticipated college coaching decisions in years.
