Lauren Betts’ parents, Andy and Michelle Betts, provided a unique childhood experience for the family. While Lauren’s dad, Andy, played professional basketball in Europe, Lauren grew up learning life in different countries.

Lauren’s mom, Michelle, helped the family adjust to life overseas. The UCLA star’s family includes three siblings: Sienna, Ashton and Dylan. Lauren’s sister, Sienna Betts, is no stranger to the spotlight as the two siblings are UCLA teammates.

Here’s what you need to know about the Betts’ family.

1. Lauren Betts Dad, Andy Betts, Was Selected in the 1998 NBA Draft

GettySienna Betts #16 and Lauren Betts #51 of the UCLA Bruins celebrates with their parents, Andy and Michelle Betts.

Lauren comes from a basketball family as her dad, Andy, is a former center. Andy was selected in the second round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 50 overall pick.

Despite being drafted, Andy did not play in the NBA and instead had a long career in Europe. Andy’s global basketball career included stops in Spain, Italy, Greece and Ukraine.

One fun fact is that Andy was involved in the Peja Stojakovic trade in 2006. The New Orleans Hornets dealt Andy’s rights to the Indiana Pacers as part of the deal for Stojakovic.

2. Lauren Betts’ Sister, Sienna Betts, Also Plays for UCLA

The Betts family are well represented on the UCLA roster. Lauren’s sister, Sienna, is her UCLA teammate.

The forward is averaging 6.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 26 appearances during her freshman season in 2025-26. Sienna has a front row seat to what it is like playing with Lauren, but it almost did not happen.

3. Sienna Betts Initially Did Not Want to Play With Her Sister, Lauren Betts, at UCLA

There was initially some pushback to the idea of the Betts sisters teaming up, admits Sienna. The two sisters eventually warmed up to the idea of being Bruins together.

“She’s a leader,” Sienna told USA Today’s Jack Little, for an April 3, 2026, story titled, “What’s it like for UCLA’s Sienna Betts to play with her sister Lauren? We asked her.” “It’s a hard boundary because, if I’m mad at myself, I don’t want to listen to my sibling. And I’m like, ‘Let me just listen to the coaches.’

“… I wasn’t gonna come here anymore. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to hear, ‘I came here for my sister,’ and I didn’t want to play college with her just because we’ve butted heads so much growing up.”

4. Lauren Betts’ Mom, Michelle Betts, on the UCLA Sisters: ‘(Sienna) Would Have Liked to Have Had UCLA to Herself’

The two Betts sisters will likely go their separate ways soon. Lauren is projected to be a top-five pick in the 2026 WNBA draft, and Sienna could have an expanded role on UCLA’s squad heading into 2027.

Sienna and Lauren’s mom, Michelle, admitted that the two sisters can be a bit territorial. Yet, being UCLA teammates has also brought Sienna and Lauren closer.

“Sienna really likes to have the opportunity to do things on her own and have things to herself,” Michelle explained to USA Today. “And so, she would have liked to have had UCLA to herself.

“I think at that time she kind of wanted to figure things out on her own. After Lauren went to UCLA, it seemed like Sienna didn’t really want us as involved in her recruiting as we had been.”

5. Lauren Betts & Her Family Grew Up in Europe While Her Dad Played Pro Basketball

Lauren became very familiar with traveling the world at a young age. While her dad, Andy, played professional basketball in Europe, Lauren was along for the ride.

During a story penned by Lauren for The Players Tribune, the UCLA star labeled her European childhood as “magical.”

“Before I ever picked up a ball, I was just a little kid following my dad around Europe, while he was playing basketball professionally,” Lauren wrote in the March 19, story titled, “I Want To Be Here.” “Since my dad worked a lot, it was usually just my mom, my siblings, Sienna and Dylan, and me.

“When we weren’t at school, we were at the beach, or out somewhere eating good food. I look back at photos sometimes, and I’m just kind of stunned that I had such a magical childhood, living in Spain and traveling to all these countries.”
