Laurie Canter Backtracks, Re-Signs with LIV Golf

Back in March of 2025, Laurie Canter became the first former LIV Golf player to compete in a non-major PGA Tour event. By the cutoff date, he landed a top 50 spot on the Official Golf World Rankings, securing an invite to the Players Championship. He tee’d off at TPC Sawgrass, and made history doing so.

Since then, Canter has faced new scenarios left and right in the world of the golf . Despite securing his PGA Tour card at a DP World Tour event, the 36-year-old recently announced his plans to return to LIV Golf for the 2026 season.

Many Firsts for Canter

Not only was the English professional the first former LIV Golf player to compete in a non-major PGA Tour event, he was also the first former LIV Player to earn a Tour card following a suspension.

At DP’s World Tour Race to Dubai, the top players earned 2026 PGA Tour cards, and Canter found himself in 7th, securing his spot on Tour following his stint with LIV Golf.

Now, Canter marks another first. After announcing his return to LIV Golf, he becomes the first player to re-sign with the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Following his decision to return to LIV, Canter will face another suspension from the PGA. In the process, he forfeits his tour card and his spot will instead go to Daniel Brown.

Canter’s Golf History

Canter’s history with the Saudi-Backed LIV golf is no short story. Due to limited status on the European Tour back in 2022, Canter chose to sign with LIV Golf for more playing opportunities. He finished year one in 28th place.

In 2023, Canter became a reserve player for LIV, filling in for injured players. He returned as a reserve player in 2024, but was replaced by Anthony Kim part way through the season.

Canter then returned to the European Tour, and incredibly, won the 2024 European Open. He then won again in the beginning of 2025, earning him that top 50 spot that allowed him to compete in the Players Championship. He went on to play in the Masters and eventually finished 7th in DP World Rankings, earning him his Tour Card.

While everyone expected Canter to play on Tour, he announced his return to LIV Golf, where he will compete with the Majesticks GC.

“Joining Majesticks GC is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that has helped shape LIV Golf from day one,” said Canter. “The league’s growth has been remarkable and my experience in the league has led me to become a more complete player and a multiple winner on the DP World Tour. To return to the league with Majesticks GC is a huge honour, and they bring a standard of excellence, ambition, and identity that really resonates with me. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to what this team is building.”

Majesticks Team Principals James Dunkley and Oliver Banks commented on Canter’s return to LIV Golf, and his place on their team.

“Laurie is an extremely strong competitor who elevates everyone around him,” said Dunkley. “His dedication to preparation, his professionalism, and the consistency he’s shown at the highest levels make him a perfect match for what we’re building. We’ve been a huge admirer of Laurie for a long time, and the timing for 2026 couldn’t be better.”

Banks agreed with Dunkley, adding, “Beyond his talent, Laurie brings a mindset and personality that align with our long-term vision for the Majesticks. He connects with fans, brings humility and hunger, and he represents the modern direction of our team. We believe he’s going to thrive in this environment and help push us toward the results we’re determined to achieve.”
