Veteran Los Angeles Lakers forward has a seemingly insatiable appetite for golf content on YouTube.
James, sidelined through the Lakers’ first 12 games with sciatica, revealed on Thursday that watching golf clips online is his favorite new pastime.
“I love watching YouTube golf ⛳️ videos!! Random I know. lol. SO COOL!”
LeBron James’ Newfound Love
The 23-year veteran discovered his passion for golf this past offseason after admittedly neglecting the sport for decades, following in the footsteps of several NBA legends. On his “Mind the Game” podcast, James revealed his “bug” for golf is real.
“The bug is real,” James told two-time MVP Steve Nash. “I’ve heard about the bug for so many years and I was like, ‘Well, it’s not gonna get me. I don’t like golf at all. Who wants to be outside all day walking around?’
“Nah, it’s real. I am into it. My algorithm on social media, every other post, every other video is some type of golf video now.”
James added that he used golf as a distraction from the constant grind of the NBA and as a way to take his mind off the court during the offseason.
“I try to stay off the court as much as possible,” he said on his podcast.
Using Golf as a Relaxation Tool
“I wanted to challenge my mind with something else and picked up golf,” he continued.
“This is the first time I’ve played an individual sport. There’s no trying to make sure a teammate is in the right spot, or I need my teammate to make this play, or he needs me to make the right play in order for us to win.
“It’s me vs. each hole, and it is the most complicated mindf–k ever,” he added.
“It’s just you vs. the greens. And I love that. I love that aspect of something that’s so uncomfortable and so hard.”
James is expected to make his season debut during the three-game stretch between Nov. 18 and Nov. 23, when the Lakers play the Jazz twice and the LA Clippers once. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, James participated in his first five-on-five scrimmage with the Lakers this week and looked nearly ready for game action.
“LeBron James went through his first full practice of the season — and, most importantly, his first five-on-five action — as he works toward returning from sciatica on his right side,” Charania told NBA Today on Wednesday.
“Sources told me this afternoon that LeBron looked great and felt great during that session. He moved well and showed no lingering issues as he continues to recover from the nerve problem.”
James will make history when he suits up for the Lakers, becoming the first player in NBA history to play 23 seasons. He turns 41 in December.
