Owen Beck was in the centre of a wild moment during Blackburn’s goalless draw at Preston, being bitten on the neck and then shown a straight red card.

The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Liverpool, kicked out at Preston’s Duane Holmes, leaving the American on the floor.

Holmes’ teammate Milutin Osmajic reacted in an insane way, sinking his teeth into the back of Beck’s neck.

The young full-back couldn’t believe it and was trying to show the bite mark in his skin to the referee and his assistant.

However, the officials did not appear to be interested and Beck was shown a red card for the foul on Holmes.

Speaking out on the incident after the contest, a remarkably relaxed Blackburn boss John Eustace told Sky Sports: ‘That’s what happens in local derbies, emotions get very high.

‘You can see from the television pictures that the kid has took a big chunk out of his neck. That’s part of being in the derby, I suppose.’

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom said: ‘I’ve just been told that there’s a claim of a bite from Mile, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens regarding that.

‘Whether there is or not, I’m commenting on something I’ve been told happened, which I’m unaware of so we’ll just have to wait and see.

‘We don’t want biting on a football pitch, we know that’s not allowed, so that’s an easy one to address.’

Osmajic was booked after the incident, while Preston’s Sam Greenwood was sent off in the first half of the bad tempered game.
