Liverpool striker Alexander Isak says Sweden are in a ‘crisis situation’ after the ’embarrassing’ defeat to Kosovo has left their hopes of World Cup qualification in major doubt.
Sweden suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Kosovo on Monday night which leaves them bottom of Group B with just one point from four games.
Jon Dahl Tomasson is now facing calls to resign as Sweden’s head coach as they now need Kosovo to lose both of their remaining games to stand any chance of securing a place in the World Cup qualifying play-offs.
‘It’s too damn bad. Embarrassing. Disappointed once again,’ Isak said after Sweden’s latest defeat.
‘We’re playing too badly. The way we’re playing doesn’t work. We’re doing it too badly individually too. So it’s a combination of everything really.

‘We are so damn dissatisfied as players. And as I’ve said before, we take a lot of responsibility ourselves. We look at ourselves in the mirror. And no one is approved. Not us players, not us as a team. And that of course includes the coach and everything around.
‘It’s a bit of a crisis situation and that’s clear. I don’t know what we’re going to do. But it’s all too bad.’
Asked to elaborate on describing Sweden’s situation as ’embarrassing’, Isak replied: ‘No, but just in general. The position we are in with one point.
‘I think, with all due respect to Kosovo, that they are playing very well. Partly because we are doing them well. They are perhaps better than you think, but I still think that we should be able to do better with the players we have.’
Meanwhile, Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga also apologised for Sweden’s defeat.
‘We just want to say sorry to the Swedish people who came and supported us,’ Elanga said.
‘Thank you for the support, but sorry that we lost. Right now it’s hard to describe what we feel.’
