Former Los Angeles Dodgers star Dee-Strange Gordon proved that he captured the hearts and imaginations of baseball fans all over the world during his career when he was elected into the “Hall of Pretty Good” on Monday July 7, 2025.
The speedy second baseman received 79% of the vote. That easily surpassed the 65% threshold instilled by HOPG founder Bryce Whitlow and earned him enshrinement in the popular social media Hall.
54,571 fans turned out to vote for Strange-Gordon on the @mlbhallofgood Instagram poll, which is a “Hall of Pretty Good” record. Strange-Gordon became the 15th player elected into the “Hall of Pretty Good”. Shane Victorino and Josh Reddick are other former Dodgers to receive the honor.
Fans enjoyed enshrining Strange-Gordon in remembrance of his MLB career thus far. But, Strange-Gordon also surprised them with a revelation he made during the 24 hour election. The news was a first for the “Hall of Pretty Good”.
Strange-Gordon Revealed that he isn’t Retired
On the @mlbhallofgood Instagram page, one of the criteria for a player to be considered for election into the “Hall of Pretty Good” is that they must be retired or otherwise inactive.
Strange-Gordon hasn’t played in the MLB since 2022, so it seems safe to assume that his playing career is over.
However, shortly after the election began, Strange-Gordon reached out to Whitlow to let him know that he wasn’t retired just yet. But he also gave the go-ahead for the vote to continue.
“I had to stop in 2022 to get [Black Sheep Farms LLC] going…I haven’t made a decision yet,” Strange-Gordon commented on the post announcing the news.
Recently on Thursday June 19, 2025, Strange-Gordon played in the East-West Classic, a game honoring the Negro Leagues, at Rickwood field. Other legends that competed in the East-West Classic included CC Sabathia, Ryan Howard, Curtis Granderson, Jake Peavy and Prince Fielder.
MLB analyst Ben Verlander, who attended the Classic, commented on the same “Hall of Pretty Good” post clarifying that Strange-Gordon was not retired and said that Dee looks like he “still has it.”
Strange-Gordon’s Superstar Career
The Dodgers drafted Strange-Gordon in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft, and developed him in their minor league system until he made his MLB Debut with the Dodgers in 2011.
Strange-Gordon played in parts of 3 seasons with the Dodgers. But in 2014, he emerged as a starter and superstar. That year, Strange-Gordon led the MLB in triples with 12 and stolen bases with 64. He also earned a nod to the National League All-Star team.
He even finished 25th in MVP voting that year. His speed and his smile captured the hearts of Dodger fans everywhere.
The Dodgers traded Strange-Gordon to the Miami Marlins on December 10, 2014. Strange-Gordon had an even better season in Miami in 2015. He recorded a .333 average, led the MLB in hits with 205, and led the league in stolen bases again with 58. He made the NL All-Star team again, and even got a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award.
In all facets of the game, Strange-Gordon was the best second baseman in baseball in 2015.
Strange-Gordon had a few more solid seasons, including in 2017. With Miami that year, he hit .308 in 158 games and led the MLB in stolen bases again with 60. But his career slowed down. By 2022 he was out of the MLB, despite hitting .305 in limited games with the Washington Nationals that season.
But Dodgers fans never forgot the homegrown kid and his breakout 2014 season, picturing Strange-Gordon in Dodger blue whenever his name was mentioned.
And now, at the revelation that his baseball career may not be over, some of them are dreaming about seeing Strange-Gordon in Dodger blue one more time.
What do you think, Dodger fans? Would you like to see Dee Strange-Gordon in Dodger blue one more time?
