LSU HC Lane Kiffin Draws Brutal Words After Ole Miss Reaction

LSU Tigers football head coach Lane Kiffin dedicated multiple tweets after the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 39-34 in the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff on January 1 in New Orleans.

After the Rebels pulled off the upset, their former head coach has put out five tweets in support of Ole Miss. Nonetheless, this reactionary behavior from Kiffin isn’t sitting well with On3’s Ari Wasserman.

Wasserman called out Kiffin for trying to ease his way into the Ole Miss spotlight after leaving the team a few weeks ago to take the LSU job.

“I feel like Lane Kiffin’s behavior in the moment would feel like an ex of yours showing up to your wedding and giving a toast about how awesome of a partner you are to the crowd,” Wasserman said on the January 2 edition of “Andy & Ari.”

“That’s what it feels like to me. I think that you can care about your players and text them and say congratulations, or make it actually genuine. And dancing in the music video right now isn’t a good look to me.

“And I’m not somebody who gets their feelings hurt. But if I were on Ole Miss’s team, and I saw the coach who left us because I felt like he didn’t believe in us celebrating our success after the fact, that would rub me the wrong way.”

LSU HC Lane Kiffin Does Deserve Credit for Ole Miss

Moreover, Wasserman followed up that segment with a separate take from his reaction, noting that Kiffin deserves credit for his part in assembling the team, but now that he’s gone, the coach should step away from the spotlight.

“I think people recognize his role in the success,” Wasserman wrote on X on January 2. “I certainly do; I just don’t think people want you dancing at the Christmas Party 2 weeks after abandoning the company, whether the move was for a better destination or not.

Ole Miss Players Talk Lane Kiffin After Beating Georgia

Ole Miss players didn’t hold back after defeating Georgia, noting that many, including possibly their head coach, didn’t believe they would be heading to the College Football Playoff semifinal.

“I believed we could be here before the season started. I thought we had that kind of team,” Ole Miss linebacker TJ Dottery said (h/t On3). “Now, after our head coach left us right when we were about to go to the playoff, I don’t know that anybody would have believed it. It would have been hard to.”

Moreover, senior defensive tackle Zxavian Harris was more direct with his shot at Kiffin for leaving the team to head to LSU and take over their head coaching position.

“I know some people were down at first and came here because of Kiffin,” Harris said (h/t On3). “But after realizing how he was and when Coach Golding came in, they saw a difference in how a real head coach is supposed to be, and you’ve seen how we’ve come together.”

It will be interesting to see whether the LSU head coach steps back from the spotlight for the final or continues to publicly support his former Ole Miss players as they face the Miami Hurricanes.
