LSU’s Whit Weeks Has Viral Moment In Loss To Kiffin, Ole Miss

The matchup of the LSU Tigers against the Ole Miss Rebels has a ton of intrigue, as both teams are ranked in the top 15 and entering the heart of their SEC schedule. But unlike other iterations of this game, the 2025 Magnolia Bowl has another reason for intrigue: Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry Kiffin, announced her relationship with LSU linebacker Whit Weeks the week of the game.

The announcement triggered a ton of attention, especially as the timing came just days before the LSU-Ole Miss game. Kiffin commented on X in response, but offered little else in relation to his daughter dating an upcoming opponent.

While many eyes were on Weeks, playing against his girlfriend’s dad, the LSU linebacker made headlines during the Week 5 game for other reasons. During the second quarter, Weeks appeared to throw up while on the field, before putting his mouthpiece back in and lining up for defense.

The Ole Miss offense had possession of the ball during the second quarter, which could have led to Weeks’ apparent dehydration. LSU ended up losing the game 24-19, but the puke was his most memorable moment from the game.

Later in the fourth quarter, Weeks suffered an apparent lower leg injury after attempting to make a tackle. He didn’t return to the game. Weeks had four total tackles and a fumble recovery before leaving the action.

Weeks Isn’t A Stranger To The Attention

While Weeks saw his latest surge of fame come after the Instagram picture was posted with Kiffin’s daughter, this isn’t his first time in the spotlight.

Over the course of last season, Weeks was featured in a Netflix documentary calledSEC Football: Any Given Saturday”. Weeks, alongside his two brothers on the Tigers, was followed by camera crews throughout LSU’s 2024 campaign, which finished in a win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

The junior finished with 50 total tackles his freshman year and 120 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception his sophomore year. Weeks entered the game against Ole Miss and Kiffin with eight total tackles and 0.5 sacks.

When speaking with Netflix, Weeks praised LSU quarterback Garret Nussmeier and helped persuade one of the nation’s top passers to return to Baton Rouge this season.

“I just told him, I was like, ‘Dude, if you come back, we’re winning the natty,’” Weeks said. “Like, there’s no doubt in my mind. Like, next year is LSU’s year.”

LSU And Brian Kelly In 2025

Though Weeks’ memorable moment came in a loss, the Tigers have had a hot start to the season compared to years past, as the Rebels were the first team to take them down in 2025.

Despite heading into the game as the number four team in the country, against Kiffin and the Rebels, the Tigers’ offense couldn’t get anything going. Nussmeier finished with 197 yards, a touchdown, and interception, his lowest passing total of the year. The returning quarterback was a top candidate for the Heisman Award, but has fallen back in the race to some of the other leading passers in the country.

LSU finished with 254 total yards of offense compared to Ole Miss’ 480 total yards. They went just 2/11 on third downs, while allowing Kiffin’s offense a season-high 28 first downs.

Before the loss to Ole Miss, this year has been the best start of head coach Brian Kelly’s tenure at LSU. They opened up the season with four straight wins against Clemson, Louisiana Tech, Florida, and Southeast Louisiana. Kelly is now 2-2 against Kiffin and the Rebels since arriving as LSU head coach in 2022.

Despite the successful start, Kelly did make headlines earlier this season for his harsh remarks to a reporter in their postgame press conference against Clemson. He later apologized and urged those in and around the program to move forward from what has been one of the only ‘blemishes’ on their strong opening.

LSU will likely drop in the AP Poll, with Ole Miss surging up. While some might call Kiffin and the Rebels beating Weeks and the Tigers revenge, the game was just dominated by one side.
