Magic’s Wendell Carter’s Awkward Angel Reese Admission Confirms Relationship

Orlando Magic forward Wendell Carter Jr. provided a highly anticipated, if slightly clumsy, update on his relationship with Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. Following months of speculation and viral social media posts, the NBA player addressed the rumors head-on during an appearance on the show Run It Back, per Yahoo. However, his choice of words in describing the WNBA standout could potentially land him in some trouble.

The relationship chatter escalated over the offseason, fueled by Carter wearing a Reese T-shirt and the two posing together courtside. Reese herself intensified the situation by posting pictures in Orlando gear and a TikTok referencing “home” and game-day outfits. Additional social clips, including Reese reposting a Carter dunk and a collage mentioning “boo,” only added fuel to the fire.

During the interview, host Michelle Beadle cut straight to the chase. “Now, this is an NBA show, but I need to know: Are you guys a couple? Are you guys dating? How’d this happen? I need details,” Beadle asked.

Carter’s response immediately became the headline. “Uh… no. That’s the—that’s—that’s the homie for sure,” Carter stated, quickly repeating, “The homie. The homie”.

Former NBA player and co-host Lou Williams immediately recognized the potential social faux pas, weighing in with an insightful warning. “Way to clean that up because you’d get that text message: ‘Oh, homie?’ ‘Homie’ is the doghouse real quick,” Williams noted.

Carter quickly amended his statement, clarifying the nature of their connection. “Y’all gonna find—y’all gonna find out when y’all need to find out. That’s my girl though. We—we—we locked in, for sure,” the Magic forward added.

Relationship Confirmed, But What About the ‘Homie’ Tag?

Despite the initial denial, Carter’s eventual confirmation that they are “locked in” puts an end to the month-long guessing game regarding his relationship with the Sky forward. The conversation underscores a genuine connection built on time spent together. Reese has been frequently seen at Magic games, even cheering him on at a recent 115-112 win against the Portland Trail Blazers. She was also spotted at a private birthday party in May, where Carter was seen taking a video of her dancing. These repeated sightings, including attending the Magic’s first-round playoff matchup against the Boston Celtics last season, provided clear early indicators of the pair’s closeness.

The public confirmation arrives as Reese enjoys her WNBA offseason, choosing not to participate in the Unrivaled league this year. The Chicago Sky forward concluded her 2025 season as a clear standout on an uneven roster, leading the league in rebounds per game (12.6) and maintaining a double-figure scoring average (14.7) for the second consecutive year. Despite her individual success, the team missed the playoffs and ended with a 10-34 record.

Carter’s Solid Start to the Season

While his personal life is drawing headlines, Carter is having a solid start to his 2025-26 NBA season. He is averaging 12.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.9 blocks in 29.9 minutes across 14 games, shooting 52.7 percent from the floor. The veteran big man continues to be a reliable fantasy option.

In the Magic’s recent 117-113 overtime loss to the Rockets, Carter recorded four blocks—a season-high—along with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 37 minutes before fouling out, per CSB Sports. The Magic now look ahead to facing the Golden State Warriors at the Kia Center on Tuesday.

Fans will have to wait for Reese’s return to the court, but according to Carter’s comments, they will not have to wait long for the full confirmation of the relationship. Even if the use of the word “homie” resulted in a quick-fire clean-up, the message is clear: Carter and Reese are “locked in”.
