Malik Willis Shares Update On Jordan Love Ahead Of Week 17

The Green Bay Packers had arguably their worst defeat to the Chicago Bears in over a decade when they somehow managed to concede 10 points in under two minutes at the end of regulation to lose the game 22-16 in overtime.

Perhaps the almost more concerning part of the defeat, which leaves Green Bay needing the Bears to lose both their games whilst simultaneously winning their final two bouts in order to claim their first division title since 2021, is that Jordan Love went off with a second quarter concussion after a late hit from Austin Booker.

Malik Willis performed more than admirably in his stead, and made serious inroads into Chicago’s defense with his dual-threat ability in the run and pass game – throwing for 121 yards and a touchdown and rushing 10 times for 44 yards on the ground.

However, if the team is serious about making a legitimate playoff run, Love must be healthy and starting. And accordingly, Willis had a short update to give on Love whilst letting the media know about his own injury suffered at the end of Week 16’s game.

Willis Likely Ready To Go On Saturday Night If Needed

“Malik Willis, who injured his throwing shoulder on the final play of regulation in Chicago, said he expects to be ready to start Saturday night against the Ravens if need be. Jordan Love not permitted to speak with reporters while in protocol, but he was in locker room, on phone and said some words in passing.” The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reported on X.

Schneidman then followed that up with the former Tennessee Titan’s telling comments on Green Bay’s starting QB.

“Willis on Love: “He’s good. He’s chillin’.” Schneidman wrote.

What Do Malik Willis’ Remarks Mean For Jordan Love?

It is not exactly clear what Willis’ comments on Love being “good” and “chillin’” mean. It could be that he is doing well in concussion protocol, or a more broad feeling that he is not too stressed about the situation the team and he himself is in.

It does not give a specific medical update as to how the Packers’ franchise QB is doing physically. Although it is unlikely that Green Bay would want one of those coming rom the team’s backup rather than the medical staff.

For the week’s practice, Love will be “limited“, according to head coach Matt LaFleur, for as long as he remains in concussion protocol.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that the former Utah State man plays in what is a critical game against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night, but that will be wholly contingent on Love making his way out of protocol.

With the team still with a chance to win the division, and playoffs not wrapped up yet, LaFleur will hope that Love can find his way onto the field. But, if he is not, Willis has shown more than enough for both the coach and the rest of the team to feel confident in his ability to go out and win the game if need be.
