Manchester United and Manchester City share an interest in Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento, with a 2026 transfer battle possible.

The 22-year-old has been at St James’ Park since a 2023 move from Southampton which was worth an initial £32m.

He has impressed under Eddie Howe, making 88 appearances for the Magpies and winning his first three England caps.

His progress this season has been hampered by a knee injury and he has only managed eight outings in all competitions, but the defender is expected to return later this month.

The Croydon-born defender will then hope to be back in the Newcastle starting line-up and perform well enough to book a spot at next year’s World Cup.

It could be a huge summer for the Chelsea academy graduate as there is heavyweight interest in signing him.

Manchester City were linked with a move for him over the last transfer window and although nothing came of it, their interest has not waned.

GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs told The United Strand that the Red Devils also have an interest in the versatile defender who can play at full-back on either flank.

He notes that Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, held the same position at Southampton when Livramento played for the Saints.

However, the report states that Manchester City are ‘most adamant’ on signing Livramento and would be favourites to snap him up.

That is if he leaves Newcastle at all, with the Magpies keen to keep hold of a player Howe is a big fan of.

Livramento is still on the contract he signed when arriving from the Saints and Newcastle are reportedly keen for him to sign a new deal beyond his current contract’s expiry date in 2028.

Howe spoke of the defender’s injury status before the international break, hoping that he will make a return against one of his suitors on November 22.

‘Tino is still on track, we are looking at the Manchester City game for him for when he can be available,’ the Newcastle boss said of Livramento.

When the full-back suffered his knee injury against Arsenal in September, his manager said: ‘He’s such a big player for us in so many different ways – his versatility, his attitude, his quality.

‘If we’re going to miss that for any length of time, it is going to be a huge blow.’
