Following Steven Gerrard’s rejection, Rangers are reportedly looking at a Manchester United legend to become their new manager.
A week after sacking Russell Martin following a disastrous start to the season, Rangers appear no closer to finding his replacement in the dugout.
Gerrard emerged as the early favourite for the job having guided the Scottish giants to their last league title in 2021, with fans hopeful he would return.
Talks were held, but the Liverpool legend withdrew from the interview process on Saturday night, feeling the timing was not right to return to Glasgow.
The Gers are prepared to take their time to ensure they make the right appointment after Martin lasted just four months and 17 games.

It is widely reported that ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is the new frontrunner, having impressed Ibrox chiefs in interviews over the weekend.
But Sky Sports report that several other candidates have been sounded out, the most notable being Michael Carrick, who is available after leaving Middlesbrough over the summer.
Carrick, who as a player won every trophy possible during his 12 years at Old Trafford, was assistant manager to Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and briefly served as United caretaker boss in 2021.
The former England international then impressed in the Championship as Boro boss for three years but was ultimately sacked in June after failing to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Sky report that Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna and former Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl are the other names in the frame at Ibrox.
However, despite being interviewed, Rangers are no longer interested in hiring former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who was sacked by West Ham just two weeks ago, and ex-Bournemouth and Wolves man Gary O’Neil.
It is not clear when the next manager will be appointed and it may not be done before Rangers’ next match against Dundee United this Saturday.
The Gers are eighth in the Scottish Premiership after Martin won just one of his seven league games, while they also lost their opening two Europa League league phase matches.
