Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko has been voted the worst signing of the summer transfer window by football agents.

United recruited Sesko from German side RB Leipzig in a deal worth £74m in August despite Ruben Amorim reportedly wanting Ollie Watkins instead.

Sesko failed to score across his opening six games for the Red Devils in all competitions, which saw the 22-year-old receive widespread criticism.

The Slovenia international striker is finally starting to find some form, though, scoring twice in United’s last two Premier League matches.

Despite appearing to turn things around, The Athletic’s agent survey has still voted Sesko as the worst signing of the summer transfer window.

The outlet asked 20 agents to name the worst signing of the summer transfer window, with some of them voting for more than one player.

Sesko received six votes – the most of any player – and double the amount of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, ranked the second worst.

‘They were pressurised into making that signing,’ one agent said about United’s deal for Sesko.

‘A lot of money for not much of a pedigree,’ a second agent added about the Slovenian.

A third agent opined: ‘Way too much money and much too soon.’

Owen: It’s too early to judge Sesko

Michael Owen, though, believes it’s too early to judge Sesko – and says the striker has only just ‘settled’ at Old Trafford since his summer arrival.

‘I would hate to judge him so early in the season,’ Owen told The Sun.

‘His team might have played seven games, but he’s not played seven from the start.

‘I would like to see him more before I judge him. His obvious traits are his size – he’s got a real presence about him.

‘The first couple of games I was thinking, ‘I’m not quite sure about him’ – I shouldn’t really say it because you can’t judge someone on coming on for 10 minutes, 15 minutes.

‘He’s settled a bit more now and he’s scored a couple of goals. That’s the key thing for Sesko, building that confidence.

‘He’s playing with good players. Let’s see him in another 10, 15 games.’
