Atletico Madrid have also held talks with Atalanta to sign Ederson before United were able to reach an agreement with the Serie A club.

Ederson is set to bid farewell to Atalanta supporters on Friday evening as they travel to Fiorentina in their final Serie A game of the season.

The 26-year-old has been with Atalanta for four seasons following his €23m (£18.6m) from Salernitana in 2022, and was a key part of the team which beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final two years ago.

Meanwhile, United are looking to sign a second midfielder alongside Ederson and reports in Italy this week have claimed that the club are also ‘confident’ of reaching an agreement with Newcastle United over a deal for Sandro Tonali.
